Maria's next tournament in 2013 is Sony Open! Maria has reached to IW final match and has played five tough matches and after three days she will play in the other tournament, I hope Maria recovers herself until Sony Open, but it's not easy!

I Don't think that will be a problem, hopefully.  Maria is one of the fittest ladies on tour, and has great recovery times.  She manages her health very well.  But there are other obstacles she will face.

So Kirilenko and Errani again in Maria's half of the draw. After that it's our friend Azarenka, who we have to feel sorry for. Most probably our other friend Serena who has been rested and is happy to play in friendly Miami.

So Maria hasn't won a title in Miami yet? Hopefully this year will be the year? hahaha, but obviously she's gotta get past Serena...

I don't know why, But always there's a problem about winning Miami final ! Maria reached final in this tournament four times before , But couldn't win even one of those finals ! It's very bad :(
I hope this rule will not continue this year , As Brebis said, RISE AND SHINE MARIA ! :)
Good luck ! :)

Big Stars Back In Action In Miami

Li Na is back on the court for the first time since Australia, while Serena Williams plays her first tournament since her historic return to No.1. The Sony Open Tennis begins on Tuesday.

Serena Williams leads a Grand Slam-caliber field to Miami this fortnight for the Sony Tennis Open  a Premier Mandatory event and one of the biggest events on the WTA calendar.

Williams is playing for the first time since her historic return to the No.1 ranking - on February 18, after reaching the final of another Premier event in Doha, the 31-year-old Williams became the oldest No.1 in the history of the WTA. Seeded No.1 this fortnight, she - like every other seed - received a first round bye, and will begin against either Flavia Panetta or Johanna Larsson in the second round.

This has been one of Williams' very best tournaments, winning it five times before in 2002, 2003, 2004, 2007 and 2008. The tournament has been running since 1985 and only one other player has won that many titles, namely Steffi Graf, who also won it five times in 1987, 1988, 1994, 1995 and 1996.

Another player making an even longer-awaited return to action is Li Na, won won 14 of 16 matches in the Australian season and moved back into the Top 5 afterwards - but subsequently had to pull out of all of her scheduled tournaments since due to a left ankle injury. But she's back and is the No.5 seed here, in Williams' quarter too - she opens up against either Kiki Bertens or Anna Tatshvili.

Headlining the other quarters are Victoria Azarenka , Maria Sharapova and Agnieszka Radwanska.

Azarenka, the No.2 seed, has had fantastic results here before, winning the title twice in 2009 and 2011, and although she had to withdraw from her quarterfinal match at Indian Wells last week with an ankle injury, she is still an unbeaten and intimidating 17-0 on the year. She will open against Madison Keys or a qualifier, and the other Top 8 seed in her quarter is No.6 seed Angelique Kerber.

Sharapova the No.3 seed, is coming off her first WTA title of the year at Indian Wells, and though she has never won in Miami, she is a three-time finalist. Fresh off a return to the No.2 ranking - the seedings for Miami were set before that ranking shift - the new World No.2 begins against either Genie Bouchard or a qualifier. The other Top 8 seed in her quarter is No.8 seed Sara Errani.

Radwanska, the No.4 seed, went 13-0 to start the season but has cooled off a little bit since then, going 6-4 in her last 10 matches - but these courts have inspired great things from the Polish star in the past, as she won the biggest WTA title of her career here a year ago. She opens against Hsieh Su-Wei or Lesia Tsurenko and if things hold to form would face No.7 seed Petra Kvitova in the quarterfinals.

Williams, Azarenka and Radwanska aren't the only former Sony Open champions in the draw. V.Williams, the No.19 seed, won here three times in 1998, 1999 and 2001, and is in Radwanska's section of the draw; Svetlana Kuznetsova, who won here in 2006, is in Errani's section of the draw.

The problem with Miami is Miami. I'm not inclined right now to upset people by dwelling on well-known facts they don't want to face. But if Maria finds it important to win a stitched-up tourney in a mobbed-up town & show up that surly, hostile & often-drunk crowd, I wish her the best of luck.

As I said before, Maria Sharapova is fantastic because she always surprises her fans with new victories at new tournaments.

But we don't want to push Maria Sharapova, she is the one who controls the situation.

Don't expect Maria to win this year. Just a feeling that the focus will not be there.

Well, Maria is on Key Biscayne so she can see the sun rising on the Atlantic Ocean....

She is an early riser... So maybe, just maybe...

People can be negative all they want, but as a major fan and supporter for many years, it is my delightful duty to cheer her on and stand by her all the way.  I chose to support Maria because of her tennis skills, her fight-to-the-end attitude, her honesty and integrity and yes, at times her child-like giddiness.  And, oh yes, her ever increasing worldliness.  Because, even though her roots may be in various parts of Russia, she has branched out around the globe and we all want to share her.  I care about Maria as is she were from the next town.  I may grit my teeth and groan when she doesn't "perform"  up to my expectations, but I will never beat on her as some mercilessly do in these forums.  Maria may seem over-zealous in her marketing at times, but she made me try my hand at Borsch (mmmm...).  Maria has made me much more of an 'enquiring mind' and a better Global Citizen.                                                                To you, Maria:                                                   RISE AND SHINE!!!

there's a reason why no one completes the IW-Miami double. Its basically 4 weeks of concentration needed, not only that, but the physical fitness also. I expect Serena to eat the field alive here. Vika is still injured im guessing, and I don't see Maria getting to the final...... even if she does, Serena will brush her aside, unless she has a very OFF day.

Not being pessimistic.... just realistic
