Sochi treats for guests of Olympic Games

The 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics are likely to be remembered not only by spectacular sporting events but also by peculiarities of the host country’s traditions. Despite the predominantly Russian culture that athletes, visitors and volunteers will plunge into exactly a year from now, Sochi Olympics organizers have decided to expand the cultural variety to include the traditional Georgian and Ukrainian cuisines.

Borscht is a famous Ukrainian beet root soup served with sour cream and garlic fritters.

Pelmeni are a sort of Russian dumplings stuffed with minced meat or fish and served with sour cream.

"I'd love to open a tennis school for children in my hometown of Sochi." said Sharapova Maria.

Sochi tickets see great sales

Sochi 2014 Ticket Sales Start in Britain

16:39 11/02/2013

MOSCOW, February 11 (R-Sport) - Ticket sales for the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics started in Britain on Monday.

Sales started online through the CoSport reselling agency at 12 p.m. local time.

The same agency will start ticket sales in the U.S. at 12 p.m. in New York (5 p.m. GMT) and has already begun sales in Australia. Canada, Brazil and various European countries will also start sales Monday.

Russia’s first Winter Olympics have already seen brisk domestic sales since tickets went on sale Thursday.

Russia’s entire allocation of tickets for the men’s hockey gold medal game appeared to sell out in half an hour, and figure skating and women’s curling are among the other events to have seen heavy demand.

Now what's wrong with that critique--coming from a mouthpiece of Western sportsmeisters...? Don't they live to tongue rich assholes? What a joke.

Matryoshka doll to become F1 Sochi logo

Feb 19, 2013

A red matryoshka doll in a racing helmet will become the official logo for the Formula One Championship in Sochi in 2014, the Moscow-based Izvestia writes.

According to the newspaper, the presentation of the logo will take place at the end of February.

The matryoshka doll was selected out of more than 800 logos that were presented for consideration in November.

The press service of Formula One Sochi has confirmed reports about the logo but has not revealed the name of the author.

Extreme Park Tests Please Sochi 2014 Organizers

Extreme Park Tests Please Sochi 2014 Organizers

MOSCOW, February 19 (R-Sport) – Sochi 2014 Winter Games organizers have said they are "pleased" with how the Rosa Khutor Extreme Park performed in the latest slew of test events for next year's Olympics.

Almost 700 athletes from 45 countries put the park through its first international test over the last week in World Cup stages for snowboard and freestyle skiing.

“The FIS snowboard and freestyle World Cup stages were a real test for us,” said Dmitry Chernyshenko, head of the Olympic organizing committee.

The athletes competed in seven Olympic events including snowboard halfpipe, parallel giant slalom, snowboard cross, moguls, ski cross and aerials and a new Olympic discipline in halfpipe skiing.

“The weather tried our patience us every day with pouring rain, high temperatures, fog and wet snow. Despite all the difficulties, we are pleased with how we handled these competitions.”

The warm weather forced organizers to cancel the February 11-13 slopestyle disciplines of the freestyle World Cup, another new event in the Olympic program.

However, other events appeared to go smoothly, earning praise from the competitors.

“It was organized very well. I'm impressed with how well they put up with such difficult weather conditions,” Vancouver Olympic mogul champion Hannah Kearney said.

“They were trying to preserve the jumps, keep the course in shape and at the same time they had halfpipe and aerials all going on at the same time. It was a good preview of how the Olympics in Sochi will be.”

Kearney won a third consecutive World Cup stage in moguls to move to the top of the overall rankings.

The Extreme Park is located west of the Rosa Khutor plateau in Krasnaya Polyana, almost 1,200 meters above sea level and near the Alpine skiing facilities.

"I'd love to open a tennis school for children in my hometown of Sochi." said Sharapova Maria.
