It's time for a new challange for Maria. Don't like the tournament, as the stands are often empty. She has won before. I wonder what happened to her motor cycle. How can you give the winner of a WTA event a motor cycle ?? Unbelievable. Anyway, many points to win. Let's hope Maria does well.

Time for Maria to start travelling !! Just read that Voltchkov is seriously injured and out for months as hiting partner. Nicolas Kiefer will take his place for about 3 weeks. After that someone else will take over ( that will be me ). Let's hope this works out well, as important tournaments are coming up.

All of top 10 players of WTA to play in Doha
The Qatar Tennis Federation is proud to announce an incredibly strong field of participants for the upcoming Qatar Total Open, February 11-17, 2013. First held in 2001, the Doha event was the first professional women’s tennis tournament staged in the Middle East and today it is a WTA Premier 5 event – bringing with it the greatest names in the sport.

All Top 10 players will be coming to the Qatari capital next month to participate in the 56-player draw. 43 players are directly enteredinto the field, with eight qualifiers and five wildcards. The top eight seeds will be given a first round bye.

Last year’s champion and World No. 1, Victoria Azarenka, leads the field of star athletes. 2005 champion, Maria Sharapova, returns to Doha after last making a finals appearance in 2008 (lost to fellow Russian Vera Zvonareva); Grand Slam and Olympics champions, Venus and Serena Williams (Serena defeated Venus to win the WTA Year-End Championships in Doha in 2009); 2011 Wimbledon champion, Petra Kvitova; and 2012 finalist Sam Stosur are among the who’s who of incredible talent.

Tournament Director, Saad Al Mohannadi, spoke of this year’s field, “We are honored to have another year with players of the highest caliber coming to the Qatar Total Open. We have all Top 10 players coming to Doha, it is an incredible field and guarantees extremely competitive matches. It will be exciting to see if Victoria Azarenka can defend her title among such a talented group of athletes – including other past champions Maria Sharapova and Nadia Petrova, along with Serena and Venus Williams, last year’s finalist Sam Stosur and 2011 Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova. We look forward to hosting an amazing week of tennis.”

Frida Frida Frida, my dear, that information was put out on the 10th of January BEFORE the Australian Open.  Do you seriously think that Serena, with her old ladies back and her club foot, will be appearing there?... She never goes there.

It is all a big Promotion Campaign to sell tickets in advance.  Wait until the end of the week, then you will see just how many of those 'projected' players are actually intending to be present

Yes, I do see Serena going to Doha, she has many point to win in the first half of the year to get to the number 1 ranking. She is smart and will fly to Doha.

Well just a couple of days to go and........ nothing..  Cant help but notice...no photos with the juniors, no pre match interview, and no shots of her practising on court.  Makes me wonder when the withdrawal announcement will come.

Inchbyinch, what are you getting all bent out of shape for?  You should know by now that Maria is into PR extreme when she's in a Tournament.. always pics with the kids, big Pre-match bullshit interview about how much she still loves Tennis and sneaked pics of her practising.. also she's usually out and about with some Sheik and a camel  (as in 2008).  I was simply pointing out that all that is missing this time.  Nothing unusual in that...is there?

Of course, there is always the possibility that because of the massive snowstorm due to hit New York this weekend and all flights in or out are cancelled, she probably decided to give the fashion shows a miss and thought 'what the hell, I might as well play tennis instead'

Crap as usual !!  The tournament is already planned for months and the snow storm came only yesterday !! You need to write something obviously to get in the spot lights . No ,no I don't buy it.  By the way; Do you not have a hobby, like most people do ?  Of course not, you are not human.

Okay, okay.  Has anybody tried to get onto the Qatar/Doha website and find out who's playing who?  The site shows no singles draw at the moment, although here, on the Home page, they are saying that Maria has cannon fodder in the second round.. no mention of any other players though.  I still think she left it very late to decide to show up.

Just found this:

A star-studded field featuring 17 of the Top 18 players in the world descends on Doha, Qatar this week for the $2,369,000 Qatar Total Open, currently in its 13th consecutive year on the calendar.

The Qatari capital's ultra-modern Khalifa International Tennis Complex has hosted the prestigious tournament since the turn of the millennium all the way back in 2001, and that's not all - it was the venue for the season-ending WTA Championships for three years from 2008 to 2010, as well.

The world's Top 4 - Victoria Azarenka, Serena Williams, Maria Sharapova and Agnieszka Radwanska - are the Top 4 seeds, and they'll all have some tough tests en route to their projected semifinal spots.

Azarenka is fresh off defending her Australian Open title, and now she'll try to defend her Doha title. After a first round bye, the No.1-seeded Belarusian will open against either Tsvetana Pironkova or Romina Oprandi, with a projected third round encounter against a player who has given her a lot of trouble in the past, No.14 seed Dominika Cibulkova. No.6 seed Sara Errani looms in the quarterfinals.

After suffering through a few separate injuries during the fortnight, Williams' Aussie Open run came to an end in the quarterfinals; she still comes into Doha on some very strong momentum however, winning 56 of her last 59 matches and already winning a Premier-level title this year in Brisbane. Seeded No.2, she opens against Anabel Medina Garrigues or a qualifier, with No.15 seed Roberta Vinci her projected third round opponent and No.7 seed Petra Kvitova potentially awaiting in the quarterfinals.

The No.3-seeded Sharapova's path to the semis is scheduled to go through No.16 seed Sloane Stephens in the third round and No.8 seed Sam Stosur or No.9 seed Marion Bartoli in the quarters.

The No.4-seeded Radwanska's path includes No.13 seed Ana Ivanovic in the third round and either No.5 seed Angelique Kerber or No.10 seed Caroline Wozniacki in the quarters, though there's a big unseeded threat looming in her quarter as well - Mona Barthel, potentially Kerber's second round opponent, is fresh off her first Premier title and held match point against Radwanska the last time they played.

The only player in the Top 18 not playing in Doha is World No.5 Li Na, who had to withdraw from the event due to a left ankle injury originally suffered in the Australian Open final against Azarenka.

And the No.1 ranking could also change hands in Doha - watch this space for more in the coming days.

What it doesn't mention is where we can find the whole draw.

I'm having the same issue Philli. Go onto the site, and it shows the 2012 draw. Go onto WTA and it doesn't show the draw at all. I'm so confused...
