We have a McDreamy, McSteamy and legendary Steamypova. Let's hope Grigor stays in the tournament. It will have a positive affect on Maria.

This is a great article from ESPN about the Sharapova effect.

According to the interview, Makarova seems very confident about today's match. I have no clue how great she is as a player but if Maria serves well then I wouldn't worry.

About serving well, f*ck!! Serena has served VERY WELL against Kirilenko, too good, it's crazy.

Best of luck Maria!!!

I didn't watch the last match as it was too early and my tivo played up. Maria is is on track with a showdown  with Li/Agi.

Makarova will no doubt give her a hard time but I doubt Maria will lose.

[quote=deadchip;321417] Well I think it's now official: Maria is playing extemely well!!!! Congrats to Masha on her impressive win. Venus needs to retire or maybe just play doubles. Maria was very good, but V wasn't really very good... so many errors, though Maria's play forced some of this by not giving Venus any time. Maria has been seeing the ball very well so at this AO. ESPN even made her speak russian in her post game interview. Onward and upwards Maria!!! DAVAI BABY! [/quote

If you write that Venus needs to retire it seems that Maria had an easy opponent. To tell the truth Maria played a fantastic match, it's the reason why Venus seems a former player, if V.Williams played in another part of the draw she have had the chance to arrive in QF or semi, but Maria was super!!!!!

We should all not get too over exited. Maria is in the last 8 , as expected. In a way, I am worried over this Makarova girl, as Maria doesn't like to play Russian girls nore left handed players. Victoria, Aga and Serena play well too so Maria has a 25 % chance of winning the final. It looks like the media is putting her on a statue but I was not that impressed about her last match. If it was Aga, she would have lost !

Lefty is no longer an issue to Maria as far as I'm concern. She has been very succesfull against Petra, and I think Petra is a much better lefty player right now. However, it's true that she hasn't been very consistent but that's between the ears the problem.

As a lefty, Makarova is weakest on her right side and Masha has become a better lateral mover than Katya. Maria should push Katya  far out into her deuce court as much as possible. Katya can't get to all those balls fast enough.

Allthough Grigor is out of the tournament after today, I hope he will stay to support Maria. Looks like he is having a positive effect on Maria these weeks.       Going to visit  the ABN AMRO tournament in February. Hope to see Roger and Grigor .

On Laver, Ferrer & Almagro have started a 4th set. Masha will not be on for a while.

Easy win. Serving much better with each match; 83% of 1st serve points won. That's almost Serena like.

Bring on Li, this'll be good

Maria STILL going strong! Another great match, i am very pleased with her performance and reaching yet ANOTHER semifinal is amazing... now she has been in 4 of the 5 last Grand Slams to a semifinal or better!

That speaks volumes of how much Maria has really improved the last couple of years! And I really think the best is yet to come! She is moving on the court even better than last year!

Tremendous amount of work from Masha! DAVAI!!

I am not as positive as my friends above !! 1st serve is a big issue at the moment. How can you be so tall and not get the ball over the net ?? Top players take advantage of it . Also not that consitent as in previous matches. Seeems like the power is slipping away a bit and the focus is on / off. I hope she can regain her power and focus to do well against Li.

The German Eurosport commentator made an interesting comment this morning.  He pointed out that at no time during the tournament has Maria been under any kind of pressure or in danger of losing a set.  In other words...she has not had to try very hard to win and this may turn out to be a very bad situation to find herself in, now she is up against Na Li, who has no respect for her and knows how to play her and how to piss her off.  And, off course, looking on the positive side if she gets through the semis we all know that she will melt down in the final and possibly take a double bagel after serving two up at the beginning of the tournament, and blame it on her collar bone.

Then she will cancel the next two tournaments and go back to the safety of California.

No, no, you won't get away with this one;

1. You listen to German commentry ?? It says enough about the Germans , translation always needed !!

2. You must have forgotten that Maria is known for her fighting spirit and when behind she RISES and SHINES  !! Philli, Philli.

3. Collarbone , what collarbone ??

It's time now for your afternoon nap , take care and we'll meet again after I get back from work . Do you have a job or is getting on Maria your main goal in life.
