"LINCOLN" will win those Awards; this is the perfect example how to assemble all elements

to win them. Spindoctors worked hard to get this thing together and i don't like "humpapa-patriotism"...

SOCIALISM is the future...

OF COURSE, SOCIALISM IS THE FUTURE BECAUSE IT IS IMPOSSIBLE FOR EVERYBODY TO LIVE IN A SELFISH SOCIETY.

Record unemployment levels in Eurozone

10.02.2010 Испания работа безработный безработица

Unemployment in the Eurozone reached a record level of 11.8% at the end of 2012, which is the highest rate over almost 20 years. Experts fear that this is not the last record. The largest number of the unemployed has been registered in Spain and Greece where the authorities have to use austerity measures due to a financial and economic crisis.

According to Eurostat, about 19mln people were officially registered as unemployed in the Eurozone in November 2012. In the whole of the EU, which unites 27 countries, over 26mln people were registered as unemployed in November.

Many analysts do not believe that the unemployment situation will improve this year. This could result in a social explosion in Europe. Well-known French journalist and expert in economic issues Eric Le Boucher is speaking:

“In 2013, Europe will be the only continent to remain in recession. This region of the world is hardest hit by unemployment and the situation is not likely to improve. In Southern Europe, social security systems have no more means of providing elementary protection. We can see this in Greece where the social situation is critical. At the same time, in Germany the unemployment level is only 5.4% and in Austria 4.5%. Europe is dangerously hit in two unequal parts.”

Independent experts point out that the employment situation has especially deteriorated in the European Currency Club member-states that have to carry out an austerity policy in exchange for their partners’ assistance. Thus, in Greece the number of unemployed people grew by over 7% last year. This stands in sharp contrast with such countries as Germany, the Netherlands or Luxembourg where unemployment does not exceed 6%. A critical situation with employment has also formed in Spain, Ireland, Portugal, Slovakia, Cyprus, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania where every seventh able-bodied citizen is unemployed. Laszlo Andor, European Commissioner responsible for Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion, is speaking:

The European Commission is raising the alarm in connection with the growing gap between Central European countries and countries on the outskirts of the EU. Giving journalists a report about social development, Laszlo Andor announced that the economic crisis has brought to naught all progress made in the employment field.

The European commissioner believes that young Europeans, unemployed women and single mothers in the south and the east of the EU are in the worst situation. Every fifth family in Bulgaria, Greece, Hungary, Romania, Cyprus and Latvia are facing serious financial problems today. On the contrary, family incomes over the crisis period have grown in the Scandinavian countries, Germany, France and Poland that have strong social security systems and stable labour markets.

European Commissioner Andor says that to improve the situation, the EU as a whole and the Eurozone in particular should carry out a more integrated social policy, invest in the employment field, expand the facilities for retraining the unemployed and develop the system of improving the professional skills of the unemployed.

I'm frankly indifferent to the "issue". It's not a magic bullet--all the issues of LGBT civil rights are gonna have to be fought out anyway--and I suspect gay marriage may represent a desperation initiative to shore up the dying instituition itself.

In America most marriages, over 50%, fail. That's been so for at least ten years (the Censdus Bureau covered it up for a long time. Of those that "succeed". guess how many are the stereotyped "Ozzie & Harriett" model (couple, married only once to each other, with X number of kids with each other, living in a single nuclear-unit home) ?  A whole big 4%!

IOW, marriage as "traditionally" conceived is headed for the ash heap of history anyway.

Not real sure why gays wanna fool with it.

AGREE about the "institution" as we know it is already in the grave. For the "rainbowppl" it's the

principle that counts imo, and no so much "BEING MARRIED" itself. Call it taking a stand against the

old rightwing principles. Well, that the way i see it...

Besides Torture, What Else Did ‘Zero Dark Thirty’ Get Wrong?
By MELENA RYZIK

In the controversy over “Zero Dark Thirty’s” stance on torture, earlier questions have been pushed aside. But in Pacific Standard magazine, Nada Bakos, a former C.I.A. operative, investigates the accuracy of the Kathryn Bigelow film on other counts.

First, Ms. Bakos, a former targeting officer, just like Jessica Chastain’s character, Maya, in “Zero Dark Thirty,” notes that were it not for the assignment to write about it, she might have seen the film. “People who work in intelligence don’t generally see movies about it,” she writes. “You can enjoy them only once you’ve been out of the game for a while, and then only if you don’t take it too seriously. I watch ‘Homeland.’ It’s fun, because it’s a fantasy.”

“Zero Dark Thirty,” on the other hand, is not fantasy, but, Ms. Bakos says, “it’s not accurate enough to resonate with my experiences.” She knew women like Maya, but objected to her portrayal as a lone gun, a Clint Eastwood-like cowboy.

“More often than not, effective intelligence — including the effort to find Osama bin Laden — is the result of sustained, collective efforts that spark moments of intuition among a pool of experts and processes, not individual hunches that compel monumental effort,” she writes. Yes, of course, it’s just a movie, but Ms. Bakos worries that the film gives the wrong perception of her field and her colleagues, including that they were unemotional or callous.

“Instead of treating the movie as a depiction of reality, I hope we treat it as a point of departure,” she writes. “We should be asking questions like, ‘What should our expectation be of our national security apparatus, especially in terms of how it conducts itself in a time of war?’ Or, ‘How might we re-imagine or rebuild our counterterrorism strategy so that it better balances individual rights and reasonable precautions moving forward?’”

“The reality of the profession,” she adds, “is long hours of menial work that don’t often fit into standard narratives. You make the best choices you can, about very serious matters, with imperfect information. You live with those choices for the rest of your life.”
