Born on 8 March, 1990, Petra Kvitova is a professional Czech Tennis player who has carved her own niche in the field in such a young age. Since the beginning of her tennis playing career till date she has gained the world ranking of no. 7 by winning five WTA singles, which certainly is a matter of several good performances and a lot of practice and hard work. She was the first 1990 born Grand Slam even winner, to win the 2011 Wimbledon Championship singles title which pushed her forward to achieve the glorious honor in the world of Tennis. She is the daughter of the proud parents called Jiří Kvita and Pavla Kvitová and was born in Bilovec, Czechoslovakia. It was her father who introduced her to the sport and she followed her role model and Czech player Martina Navratilova.

Till the age of 16 years, she was trained in her hometown, after which she was encouraged and inspired to take up Tennis as a profession by an instructor. Apart from her well known fast left-handed serve which allowed her to have 36 aces at the 2011 Wimbledon Championships, she is also famous for her astoundingly heavy forehand, backhand and timing. She plays close to the baseline, whenever she wants to make up for her lack of speed and these tactics have shown great colors by contributing towards her victories. The year 2008 saw her gaining some remarkable victories against world renowned and top-class players like Anabel Medina Garrigues, Venus Williams, Akikio Morigami, Samantha Stosur, Agnes Szavay and many more. However, it is not that she had not had her share of defeats as failures build the pillars of her success gradually, because she learnt from them and polished her skills further with every game.

Her contribution to the world of tennis and her performance is still continuing to grow and shine with each passing day and thus she has a long way to go to reach the ultimate success such as Maria.

Kvitova Stands Between Serena & No.1

Petra Kvitova battled back twice to beat Nadia Petrova and reach the quarterfinals, where she will face Serena Williams. If Williams wins that match, she will become No.1 in the world again.

Kvitova Stands Between Serena & No.1

Should Williams reach the semifinals at this week's Qatar total open she will secure a return to the No.1 ranking next week, which would make her the oldest player ever to be No.1 and give her a 124th career week at the top spot.

"It's awesome," Williams said of the stat. "Since I didn't do the youngest, I figure I'll do the oldest."

Kvitova Headline Act In Katowice

Petra Kvitova tops the bill as the European clay court season kicks off at the inaugural BNP Paribas Katowice Open.

KATOWICE, Poland - Save for the occasional Fed Cup tie, Petra Kvitova has been shorn of the opportunity to appear on home soil since 2010. And while next week's inaugural BNP Paribas Katowice Open is not technically in her native Czech Republic, in the globetrotting world of a leading tennis player, it is as good as on her doorstep.

The tournament, hosted at the futuristic-looking Spodek arena, is just a two-hour drive from Kvitova's home across the Czech-Polish border in Fulnek, offering her the ideal launch pad for the 2013 clay court season. But, it is not just the location that is ideally suited to the Czech's needs.Katowice is - alongside Stuttgart - one of just two indoor clay events on the calendar, a fact that is a boon to Kvitova, who in recent years has produced her best tennis when the elements have been removed from the equation. Not that the top seed is likely to have it all her own way; she is joined in the draw by eight other former clay court title winners, including the high-flying Roberta Vinci.

On the back of a quarterfinal run in Miami, Vinci reached a career-high ranking on No.13 last Monday and, despite turning 30 in February, is currently playing some of the best tennis of her career. However, the Italian has not been handed the easiest of draws in Poland. Should she see off the mercurial A . Hlavackova  first up, she will play the winner of the first round encounter between two of the WTA's bright young things, Kiki Bertens and Lara Arruabarrena .Also in Vinci's half of the draw are the hard-hitting trio of K.Zakopalova, Kaia Kanepi and Laura Robson, who are seeded No.3, No.6 and No.8 respectively. Meanwhile,Julia Gorges , Alize Cornet and Sabine Lisicki will be providing principal competition in Kvitova's half.
