Yeah 6-2 6-0 for Masha ! Davaï Maria !!!
Very good match for Maria, quick victory and she had a nice red Russian t-shirt.
Who will be the next opponent?
I think I'd rather Shvedova came through to the third round--just so I could see them play. Masha would win on will alone, But I love watching 'Slava, too. She is thru to second round. Molodyets!
All remaining matches, inc those in progress, are postponed until tomorrow.
I really like the shirt, too. :D Next opponent WAS to have been Safarova or Martic. But something happened with Martic. Scheduled is Safarova vs Laura Robson. HOWEVER:
Game , set and Olympic match !! Was not able to see the match. She was very lucky to play under the roof and get this match under her belt. 1 day rest and let's hope no rain on Tuesday , as I expect Maria not to play on Centre Court again. Did anyone see our friend Sasha ?? By the way, interesting tennis bag. Is she not aloud the carry her Head bag ??

A little nervous to begin with, losing the first game but never looked back. The win and bagel win give Maria confidence to play tougher opponents.
Well that was a good 1st round for Maria. I was actually nervous because she's playing a tricky opponent who made Maria play a 3 set match in Miami.
Next match would be against Robson/Safarova! Both are tricky lefties, but definitely Lucie is the one who is more capable on threathening Maria.
*I just have to comment on how hard Maria's draw is! She's got Clijster, Shvedova, and her Wimbledon conqueror Lisicki! Hope Sharapova gets to play more often in Center courts. I mean the conditions against Lisicki in Wimbledon contributed to Maria's lose.
Well, I just hope this smooth sailing continues. And what a surprise that the 2nd seed lost to Georges right at the 1st round after a Wimbledon Final!
Maria's interview after the match!
And a couple of pictures from her olympics debut!
Good match from Maria. A bit scratchy at first, but she settled in nicely and Peer never did, she just kept sucking and folded up shop late in the match. But good job by Maria, never to really show her any light at the end of the tunnel. Maria's first service game in the second set was crucial, as Peer had break points and Masha battled thru and set the tone for the second set. She never looked back after that and kept the pedal to the metal, never giving the Israeli any chance to get going again. Always fearful when playing young players in their home country (especially in the Olympics!!), as the support will be behind Laura 100%. Still Masha should get by her and as a bonus will likely get center court again! Not sure what you are talking about Maria's draw being tough??? I mean would you rather be on the side with Serena, Venus and Vika?? The draw always gets tougher the deeper you go and Masha has to keep upping her level as she progresses thru any tournament or you won't win. Lisiscki vs Schvedova should be a good match and I hope they hit the piss out of each other and play a four hour match :)!!!!
GO FOR THE GOLD!!!!
