This match has the potential to be ugly. Looking back at last year's semifinal, Maria had 13 DFs and still managed to win in straights, 6-4 6-3. That should give you an idea how awful Lisicki was in that match. But that is typical of Sabine, as she plays a wreckless, high-powered style. She actually leads this year's tournament in DFs, while Maria is 3rd. So this might not be easy to watch. I hope the results are the same and I also hope Maria plays better than in last year's battle, just to build some confidence into the second week.

Weather doesn't look promising, but at least Maria's scheduled to be on first on Court One.

To be honest, I don't think she will play Monday. The whole week the weather doesn't look good. Summer is a poor one in Europe this year. Tell me about it, have not seen so much rain in June my entire life in Holland.  Pfffff !

You might be right! it's too bad that she is NOT schedule to play in central court.

Highlights against Hsieh

http://www.youtube.com/w...bedded&v=H_ivrbu-cIg

As for the match against Lisicki, a lot of things are different this year than the last one. And if one of those 2 players improved immensly since then, that one is Maria. I am not saying that this will be a walk in the park, I am just saying that Maria is in a much improved form compared to the Maria last year at Wimbledon. Look at what she has accomplished coming into this tournament. Look at her ranking, everything.

The match is not going to be easy and WTA is way to random to make predictions, but I do believe Maria can and will do what she is supposed to do. Only thing that bothers me is the weather, and not so much the rain, but the damn wind.

But I really do believe she is going to make it!

Good luck Maria!! Davai!!!

I would say i'm disappointed, but not really.

Maria hasn't looked comfortable all tournament, i definitely saw this coming.

She's still playing with a clay court mentality in my opinion.

Ahh well, Lisicki played the match of her life, i mean i think she missed 2 first serves that whole second set.

Meh, Vika can have the number 1 ranking; all it ever brings for Maria is losses

Take a day off, then start training for the Gold.

Don't know what else to say really, dont wanna make excuses.

It was a good run while it lasted. It is a hard loss there is no denying that, but I cant feel too disappointed about it. Maria has achieved way too much this season for me to take it hard.

Lisicki was better today, Maria was shaky and that damn weather seriously fucks everything up in London... from the one hand the wind, then the rain, then stop, resume, hard to get a proper match rythym. But hey, no excuses, both players were playing under the same conditions.

Maria wasnt as good today, as simple as that. And she needs to rest, she earned it. The fact that she had to come back after winning RG and take on wimbledon is not an easy task.

In any case she had an excellent run. What is it 22-1? something like that? I hope she gets to rest and work on her game for the Olympics and the US open where she can bounce back in the rankings, although like I said before, I dont care for the number 1 spot, I consider it a goal already achieved. She was unlucky to achieve it in the most dangerous time of all (RG-Wimby) but hey, not many were able to get RG and Wimby back to back.

Congrats to Lisicki and dont worry Maria. :)

The weather and scheduling is an absolute joke. Maria played her first match on centre, and the rest on court 1. Imagine if Djokovic or Federer were put off centre for more than one match, we'd have uproar.

Definitely not impressed with the tournament overall.

Both RG champs out before the QF. Who would have seen that coming?

As pessimistic as I usually am, I honestly did not see this result coming today. I thought she'd be in trouble in the next round. Incredibly poor effort by Maria. I don't understand why she looked so uncomfortable and nervous on grass throughout the tournament. Where was the supremely confident player from the past two months?

A hugely devastating loss. She not only will most likely loss her number one ranking, she could easily drop to 3rd, with Radwanska being in such an easy draw. And it also brings the doubters and critics back in, after all the praise Maria's received since the French.

I go back to what I said earlier after that second round match, she just looks mentally and physically exhausted. Not to make excuses, but there was very little fight out there today. I'm really starting to believe that Maria truly is a clay-court spectialist at this point in her career.

And to add the final insult, the rest of this week looks like a Serena Williams coronation. Sickening.

You need to chill out buddy. She was bound to lose some time.

As i said before, she looks more comfortable on clay. Give her a few more weeks training and she'll be fine.

REMEMBER who cares about Wimbledon, we want Gold.

It isn't a devastating loss. I'd rather her lose now, rather than in the final. ESPECIALLY IF ITS AGAINST VIKA OR SERENA. No thanks, at least Lisicki isn't a b****

I'm not extremely upset that she lost because of the Olympics. However, i don't see how anyone "Could not care" about her winning Wimbledon. I mean, it's Wimbledon. On to the Olympics!

Today wasn't a great day for Maria and her fans. Unfortunately Sabine was more consistent, especially on her serve, than Maria was. Maria tried to comeback in the first set, she 4-5 40-15 but a few errors and a DF gave Lisick the set. In the second, the early break decided it, Maria improved her serve but it wasn't enough. Lisick served well and Maria didn't find a way to break back. Now is to wait if Victoria will or not to take top spot back, and wait for the Olympics.

Tennis is tough and it's impossible to play your best all the time. She will work hard to improve for the Olympics. GO MARIA!!!

I'm a Maria's fan so she will have my full support, winning or losing I'll be there for her.

I never said i didn't want her to win Wimbledon. I want her to be undefeated.

On the bigger picture though Olympics > Wimbledon.

Maria has 3-4 more Wimbledon's left in her, but only 1 more Olypmics (if she hasn't retired in 4 years) after this one.

I'd rather her have a rest, get back on the practice court, and get back into the grass court mentality.

EDIT:

Kim lost to Ange 6-1 6-1. I find that a bit more upsetting than Maria's loss. Ahhhh well, just one of those days!

If I had to choose, I'd still pick another Wimbledon title for Maria over Olympic Gold. I know the Olympics are a unique and special experience, but careers are still ultimately measured in Slams. A Gold Medal is just a nice bonus. Does anyone really remember that Elena Dementieva won a Gold? No. She's remembered as being a slam-less wonder.

I'll be rooting hard for Maria in London and I hope she savors the experience and wins any kind of medal. And I can't wait to watch her carry that flag in the opening ceremonies. But I'd still rather see her hoisting that Wimbledon championship plate again.

Yeeh, I agree with most of you ! She didn't look fresh right from the start. It is sad it happens at Wimbledon but what a run she had in spring !! The earliest loss in a tournament this year. I think she will go home, say hello to Dolce and clear her mind a bit. It's good to see she didn't get an injury just before the Olympics but that arm worries me a bit. Apart from tennis, I think personal problems are looming. One thing is a fact, the engagement ring is no more. She needs to deal with this and to move on. Can be tough but not really any option. Maria , enjoy your free time and see you back in London on July 27.

Well definitely a bit disappointing, but not the end of the world. Maria looked a little flat all of the first week too and she definitely wasn't at her best today, but all credit to Lisicki, as she had held her nerve at the important end hgames of the sets, even though Maria was pushing back hard. Maria kinda gifted that first set from 40-15, but still Sabine took full advantage and serving out the match she managed to hold. Still very proud of Masha for the whole start of the year and she still fought very hard today and was anything but an easy out and it took a second serve ace to finally beat her.
So chin up Masha and get some well deserved rest, then come back stronger and meaner for the Olympiad!!! Crap gonna have to change my signature back though!!!

Also agree with brebis that personnal problems are maybe in play right now too and may have made it hard to concentrate well.

Masha is my #1!!

it might sound really weird but I too prefer Lisicki to take the trophy instead of Serena or that bitch Azarenka.

As far as personnal issues with Maria lets not jump into conclusions yet, she hasnt said anything other than that she has to wait. While I do understand how something like that affects you as a player I wont jump into conclusions.

This may seem wierd but if Maria is out of a grand slam i never want a underdog to win. I am not a fan of Serena but i almost want her too win now.

I find the Sasha thing fishy as well but we have to remember that Maria is extremely private

Not jumping to conclusions, just saying that if there is something going on in her personal life, it would likely impact her game. I know when I'm in the middle of relationship issues, I'm not at my best!!! To put it mildly!!! LOL
