You are definitely a part of Tennis History, a tennis legend now!! Gongrats for all the work, the devotion, the dedication, the determination, the courage ... you are an example, an inspiration !!!!

Well deserved French Open, Well deserved number 1 spot!!!

Love u Masha !! Xoxo

I was REALLY nervous about this one.....three major defeats on the run would have been unbearable! BUT SHE DID IT, and convincingly. Whatever happens now, no one can take away the fact she has won at ALL FOUR MAJORS, only the 10th woman to do that. Nice tribute by all time great Steffi Graf too. Maria deserved this. I 'll admit I had my doubts she would EVER get back to this level. But hard work and effort and bloody-mindedness have got her the respect she deserves.

The trick will of course be to try and stay up there. No easy task nowdays.....there are 5 or 6 other girs capable of being number one. Look at all the different slam winners too from the last 2 years. But no matter.... She did it!!! AND THATS AS MUCH FOR THE FANS WHO STUCK BY HER THROUGH THICK AND THIN as it is for her close acquaintances. One more time, WELL DONE MARIA!!!

Monica Seles near Masha wears a long-sleeved linen jacket and not only a white coat that means the weather is not so hot. Anyway the weather was always rainy in Paris during the tournament.

The victory doesn't give goosebumps to tennis player. You can check it on other tennis winners. But when it is cold, you have goosebumps.

But I know that Masha is pride to be a new champion according to her happy face.

Dartagnan how old are you? Have you ever competed in sports in a professional level? Have you ever heard your national anthem playing because of you and a whole country and millions of people stand up because of what you have accomplished? I believe you have no idea what it feels like.

Even so there are so many photos from the ceremony and not even one, except this, is showing Maria having goosebumps. Just one photo... and guess what happens in that photo... Maria is listening to the Russian National Anthem and is as  emotional as I have ever seen her after a win (she even cried)... and you think she has goosebumps because she is feeling cold?? yeah...ok...

Guys:

It was cold. Errani was sranding there shivering, and Sara is no weak sister. But at the rate Masha's metabolism was pumping, I don't think she felt it so much.

Look back at the vid. This moment is as she squelched tears as the anthem played. I doubt this is the first time Maria has felt the hand of Rodina, but this time the spirit came just for her.

Alot easier to accept the love of the world than to know the Motherland now turns to her. Anastaia & Lenochka have passed from the court, Kuzi imagines she's unworthy, and Vera must play at less than 100%. No more of the silly bullsh!t about whether she's a "real Russian". Now she knows.

Think about it: in July, it's all on her That's pretty overwhelming.

It seems you have no idea about goosebumps and that there are various causes that lead to this. You get goosebumps because of temperature yes but you also get them if you listen to a song you like a lot, from emotional moments and a lot more.

Here, for your reference:

Quote:

Cause

Extreme temperatures

Question book-new.svg
This unreferenced section requires citations to ensure verifiability.

Goosebumps can be experienced in the presence of cold temperatures. The stimulus of cold surroundings causes the tiny muscles attached to each hair follicle to contract. This contraction causes the hair strands to literally "stand on end." At the same time, the tiny muscles that are contracting are causing a "bunching" of the skin surrounding the hairs, which results in the "bumps" in goosebumps.

This is the body's way of preserving its own heat by causing the hairs on the skin to stand up, thus reducing heat loss. Goosebumps are often seen in conjunction with shivering in these instances.

People also get goosebumps when they are hot, or in the presence of extreme heat. The main reason for this is sweat. As the perspiration accumulates on the skin, it naturally evaporates. As the sweat evaporates, it cools down the skin surface. As this process occurs, a dramatic temperature difference occurs and the body responds to the "chill" of the evaporation of the sweat and the "goosebump response" kicks in.

Intense emotion

People often say they feel their "hair standing on end" when they are frightened or in awe. Another intense emotional situation that can cause goosebumps is the "fight or flight" response the body can employ in an extremely stressful situation. As the body prepares itself for either fighting or running, the sympathetic nervous system floods the blood with adrenaline (epinephrine), a hormone that speeds up heart rate, metabolism, and body temperature in the presence of extreme stress. The sympathetic nervous system also causes a reflex called piloerection, which makes the muscles attached to the base of each hair follicle contract and force the hair up. Goose bumps cause the hairs to stand up, just as porcupines raise their quills when threatened. When piloerection occurred in man's ancestors, their plentiful hair made them appear larger to enemies and helped keep them warm. Although man is no longer as hairy, the reflex remains.[11]

Music

Canadian researchers have suggested that when we are moved by music our brains behave as if reacting to delicious food, psychoactive drugs, or money. According to Caribbean Sociologist, Corey Alexander Lane, "The reaction from music is based on the memory induced emotion that some songs create." In the practice of music production this phenomenon has long been used to judge the quality and impact of a performance, particularly in recording studios during the playback process. The engineers and producers would say "You knew something was good if it gave you goose bumps." They would actually roll up their sleeves and visually check their arms.

The pleasure experience is driven by the chemical dopamine, which has been linked to addiction. It produces physical effects known as "chills" that cause changes in the skin's electrical conductance, heart rate, breathing and temperature. The responses correlate with the degree to which people rate the "pleasurability" of music.

The new research has shown that dopamine release was greatest when listeners had a strong emotional response to music. "If music-induced emotional states can lead to dopamine release, as our findings indicate, it may begin to explain why musical experiences are so valued,” wrote the scientists.[12

Some final thoughts on the French Open. I think the way it unfolded for Maria was perfect. Yes, it would have been awesome if she had won last year’s Wimbledon or this year’s Australian Open. But for her to go on to clay and win the French Open, complete the career slam, and reach number one in the world again couldn’t have been scripted better. Seeing the joy and excitement on her face right after the final point was something I’ll always remember. And I’m sure she’ll cherish that well-deserved moment forever.

Another thing I think is worth pointing out is how remarkable an accomplishment this really was for Maria. Her level of mental toughness has been mentioned many times over the years, but I think that’s actually now understated. What she did has never been done before. No tennis player has come back from severe shoulder surgery to win a major. No player has recovered from something like to that to reach number one. And nobody has ever recovered from the horrific serving and DF problems Maria suffered from to achieve what Maria has.

Imagine any other tennis player having to deal with their biggest on-court weapon suddenly becoming a liability. Maria’s serve was so good before the injury. But no matter how many DFs and embarrassing losses she suffered through, she never quit and worked even harder to improve. Do you really believe if Serena Williams started double faulting 10-15 times per match and being broken with ease, that she would’ve toughed it out for 4 years? Serena’s serve is EVERYTHING to her. I don’t think she would've gone on and I don’t think any other player out there today would have persevered. I think she would’ve packed it in and retired years ago. Maybe I’m biased, but I think Maria is the only one who could’ve done it. I’m really in awe of her right now. She has displayed historic mental toughness to get back to the top and has proven what a resilient person and all-time champion she is, even when others doubted her.

I agree completely with what you are saying! I really do and i have said all those things myself in previous posts! But if you believe all those things then why were you so afraid that Maria would disappoint you? :) She was doing so well not just in the final but the entire tournament really. She was playing better than anyone. If you exclude the shacky match with Zakapalova then Maria was simply close to perfect on this tournament. And even before that winning 2 clay tournaments coming to RG was a testament to how ready she was for this. That is why i was telling you to be more optimistic and not so harsh on her! :)

but i understand that you wanted so much for her to win... we all did! :)

Okay at least you recognized that low temperatures gives goosebumps.

Okay let's check the temperature in Paris on June 09, 2012 when Masha won her final.

If you check it, you notice that the temperature was about 18°C when Masha won the final, there was also a wind of 22 km/h.

I don't think it is a very high temperature and the wind is not welcomed. I forget to tell that the presence of a fresh wind increases the risk of having goosebumps.

Monica Seles near Masha wore the right clothes for this temperature&wind: a long-sleeved linen jacket.

http://www.meteorologic....mp;mois=06&year=2012

I finally agree with you, the temperature could have also increased the goosebumps of Masha during the ceremony.

David Beckham has spoken of getting "goose bumps" over being part of the official handover of the Olympic Flame to London.

Ofcourse and goosebumps are cause by temperature. I never said any different, I just said that there are many causes other than temperature. Havent you ever felt goosebumps in your life, after hearing a song you really like? Or when you were witnessing something great? I had goosebumps when the national anthem of Russia was playing in honor of Maria in the ceremony! And I was in my home, and there was no cold nothing. I was just in awe.

And I know since I have been in semi-professional sports competitions, that when you win against a good team and the whole stadium is chearing for you, your adrenaline is sky high. You dont feel cold you dont feel anything because your body is running on full adrenaline. That is the reason why Maria didnt wear her jacket for the ceremony. She was still in awe of what just happened. Monica Selles did nothing but sit in a crowd and watch the match... has nothing to do with maria's case. When Maria relaxed in the locker room and finally he adrenaline went to normal levels again, sure she felt cold and wanted to get her jacket on.

I have been in a similar situation (albeit 1000000 times less important as winning Roland Garros) and I know how it feels. You are just full of energy, full of emotions and you are in awe of what you just accomplished.

Okay, some of you ain't gonna want to hear this departure from comfortable "narrative", so just ignore me like you usually do and go back to sleep.  But hey, video of the ceremony is being pulled off youtube lickety-split, under every lame "copyright" pretext. Here's why:

From championat.ru:

Roland Garros Sharapova: during the national anthem was thinking about the Olympics.

After the victory in Paris Sharapova said on the finale, Maria Sharapova by beating Sara Errani in the final of "Roland Garros", became the owner of "Career Slam" - that is tennis player, in an asset that has titles in all four tournaments, "Grand Slam". Before starting the press conference which was attended and a special correspondent for "Chempionat.com" Stacy Head WTA Ellaster and former French tennis player Nathalie Dechy handed Mary a piece of clay victory in a transparent case. After that the Russian has responded to numerous questions of journalists, telling about the finale, that compelled her to continue to play when many did not believe in her, to improve physical fitness and playing on clay, the study of French, that the thought of Olympics, future plans and much more.

you completely dominated this match as the tournament as a whole. How do you feel today and that felt immediately after the match points?

- I would say that this is something surreal. The most unique thing that has ever been during the years of my career. I never would have thought that this would happen, I used to think that a victory at Wimbledon in 17 years and remains the most valuable point in my career. But when I am today fell on my knees, then I realized it was something really special and valuable.

- Maria, thank you for this opportunity. To hear the Russian national anthem at "Roland Garros". During its performance in your mind raced some words of the hymn: Old or new? -

For some reason I immediately thought about the Olympics at this point. This is the first time after my victory at a tournament "Grand Slam" the hymn was played, and it was great. Moreover, I have never seen that done in a ceremony well

Masha did not answer the question. In fact, she could be seen mouthing a few words. The "old" lyrics are the anthem of the Soviet Union. The forbidden lines, like...

Party of Lenin, strength of the people...

oops....
