I think winning the French Open will have lifted a big weight from Maria's shoulders. She won't have to answer questions about her surgery anymore. She won't have answer questions about if she'll win another major anymore. She can relax and just have fun playing tennis now because her career legacy is secure. She's a Hall of Famer. Any other successes she adds this season will just be icing on the cake because the year is already a triumphant success.

And I really hope Agi Radwanska was back in Poland already, watching Maria hoist that trophy. :)

We just expect Maria to win a gold medal at the Olympic Games. I guess she has a good chance to win one.

Tennis on lawn court is different but Masha reached the final of Wimbledon the last year so I think she has a good chance to win a gold medal at the Olympic games as she knows all her opponents now.

"I'd love to open a tennis school for children in my hometown of Sochi." said Sharapova Maria.

Steffi Graff supports Masha's efforts:

Saturday, 9 June 2012

Steffi Graf has told The Tennis Space that Maria Sharapova’s career grand slam has shown that she is “a complete tennis player with great talent, who is capable of winning on all surfaces”. Graf, who was speaking at a Longines event at Roland Garros, said she understood the difficulties and the challenges that Sharapova has been through after her shoulder injury and operation: “I know what that’s like, and I’m sure it’s been a big challenge for her. This is a great achievement for Maria.”

Graf on Sharapova returning to the top of the sport – she will be No 1 again on Monday morning.

“I’m not surprised at what Sharapova has done, getting back to No 1 again after the problems with her shoulder, but I sure understand the difficulties of coming back from a serious injury. I’m sure that it’s been a big challenge for her coming back from her shoulder operation, but with the talent she has it’s not so much of a surprise. Her style of tennis is so powerful, and she is so talented, so there was always a chance that she would come back to this level.”

Graf on the significance of Sharapova winning all four grand slams:

”To win all four slams, that’s a great achievement. If you win a few slams, that’s an achievement in itself, but if you win all the slams at least once, that shows that you’re a complete player, and your talent, as you’ve shown that you can win on four different surfaces. Especially nowadays, as three of the four grand slams used to be on grass, with the fourth here on clay in Paris, and now the tournaments are played on four different surfaces. So this is quite an achievement for Maria.”

Graf on what’s it like trying to deal with her, Sharapova, and other tennis players to cope with injuries:

“It’s one of the hardest things for a tennis player. Early on in my career, I didn’t struggle with any injuries, and then I had problems with my shoulder and with my back. That was difficult. The knee then made it very difficult. When you know almost every hospital in every city, that’s not good. I have lasting effects now from my playing career and from my injuries. Every retired tennis player will tell you that it becomes harder and harder as the years go on. We just age much quicker than people who didn’t play tennis professionally. That’s definitely one of the most difficult parts of dealing with your body, not just at the end of your career, but after your career.”

A text that I wrote in tribute to her:

A story that began when his parents left their city in Belarus fearing the possible effects of radiation from the Chernobyl nuclear accident, and migrated to Nyagan in Siberia where Maria Sharapova was born. When she was two years old they moved to Sochi, Russia. When she was four years old, Aleksandr Kafelnikov, (Yevgeny Kafelnikov's father), Yuri Sharapov's good friend (Maria's father), gave Maria her first tennis racket and she began to be trained by his father. At age of seven, Maria went to Moscow for a clinic organized by Martina Navratilova and Martina got impressed then indicated that Maria should go to the United States, specifically the Nick Bollettieri Tennis Academy in Florida. Getting there with his father, both of them didn't speak English, they had little savings and her mother was not allowed to enter in the USA. So to Maria continues training, his father had to make numerous informal services as a cleaner and more. She was finally admitted to the academy. The progress of Maria was huge and in 2004 at age 17 she shocked the world by winning the professional title at Wimbledon. But in 2008 a serious shoulder injury frustrated her plans to play in Beijing Olympics - Maria said numerous times that represent Russia in the Olympics was his greatest dream. It was necessary that she have surgery on his right shoulder after nine months away from the court trying his recovery, which made her leave the top 100. Many said that she would retire because she had too much money, or that she should abandon her career and do other things. But she and her family never gave up, and even with irregular seasons in 2009 and 2010 due to fear of being injured again, the need to change her mechanics serve to protect the shoulder and the fact of taking the time to pick up the pace of play, she followed trying and often said that only when something is taken away from you for a while, you realize how it makes you lack and so she went to work to find her best tennis again. It has succeeded, in 2011 again had good results as the title of the WTA Rome final in Wimbledon among others, finishing 2011 at No. 4 Ranking. In 2012, the progress continued - reached the final of the Australian Open, Indian Wells and Miami. Following was the Rome and Stuttgart where she won both titles, then she went to Paris to compete in Roland Garros - where she won the title today, the return to the top of the ranking and completed the career slam (winning at least one title each grand slam). This is just a brief summary of all this brilliant tennis player and above all an amazing women, that won titles (titles wta - 26 doubles titles - 3 and three ITF titles - 5). All of this was achieved even at 25, due to the determination and huge will power that she and her family had to overcome all the difficulties. So that's why tears of happiness came from my eyes today when I saw her lifting the trophy at PC's court. Again, congratulations Maria. Now she will go to the lawns of London to play Wimbledon and finally realized his childhood dream: to defend Russia in the Olympics. I will always be with her, giving her my support as fan.

Congratulations Maria, you did it in style! Let's look back and ahead. Who in the draw you might have had problems with? Serena: No, not on that surface, even it had been dry red clay! Carolyne: If she plays her best "Wilander-style" defense tennis, it may be really difficult for you to end the points. But you won against her in Rome last year (rather narrowly), and this year you are much better (serve etc.). In my view, the toughest opponent would have been Li Na, especially on normal, dry Paris clay: Any ball which she is under no pressure with will be sent by her into the nasty corners of your field, would have been diffcult for you to cope with - in my view Li Na has improved as much as you did since your last encounter in Roland Garros semifinals 2011.

Wimbledon: The worst that could happen to you would be an early encouter with Venus. But you had a very good and intense match with Venus in Rome, you are the number one and should not fear any early encounter with Venus but view it as an early "final". As you know, grass is the surface where you can lose an early round the easiest if things are somehow not working well for you and your opponent has a run: Try to find fall-back positions in your, try to prolong it until thee may be a late shift to the better. Good luck for Wimbledon. I assume you will not play in any pre-tournement on grass next week? Although, one or two rounds under life conditions, only for preparation purposes, may be advisable.

KInd regards, leopold2

ERRANI ASKED MASHA IF SHE WANTED TO EXCHANGE HER TROPHY WITH HERS.

Errani: Masha, please do you want to exchange your trophy with mine? My trophy is very beautiful; it look like a mirror.

Sharapova: Oh no, I prefer to keep my trophy because I am not the loser.

Errani: Oh look, I see your trophy in my mirror.

Sharapova: Oh yes, it is just an image of the real trophy. Remember my name is written on the trophy so I can't exchange it.

Errani: Right, you are the best.

Sharapova: Thanks.

In 2003 Maria captured my heart in the 4th round of Wimbledon. The way she played and presented her self on court made me one of her greatest fans. Therefore I follow her career and life ever since. Yesterday, I realized that I am a fan of a LEGEND. That feels fantastic. Maria , I like to thank you for making my life so happy but above all I like to wish you a great summer without any expectations, you have shown the world yesterday that YOU are the best of the best ! Your grace and determination is of the highest value. Enjoy your free days.
