Boy, you blokes are slipping. The tournament starts on Monday and nobody has thought to make a new thread.  Wake up there.  Do I have to do everything around here for you boys.

Maria has an easy tournament until she meets Serena.  Looks fixed to me, but what do I know.

PHILLI!! Where were you?? You had me worried you know? And no, I am not messing around now, I am not joking at all, believe it or not!

As far as Rome goes, now starts the difficult part of the Tour for Maria. Lots of points to defend from here on. I hope she is ready for it. In any case, it is going to be rather interesting.

Maria Sharapova should be ready to play against Serena Williams again.

I think Serena is the tennis player who blocks Sharapova at each tournament.

They played together 10 matches, Serena won 8 of them, Masha won 2 of them.

So I think that Masha should wake up and make the difference.

Yes Stosur, Na Li, Azarenka, Rwan.... are dangerous but Masha has found a solution for them. It is not the case of Serena.

We are waiting the solution for Serena....

Philli Wan hung her head in dismay. After so many moons, the Dark Side of the Serve had returned. 'At least', she muttered to herself, 'one of them is not so strong anymore'. It hurt her to see The Princess take such a hammering from the Dark sister, and seem helpless to defend herself againsat the onslaught. Master Yuri no longer accompanied her on her travels and the brave ex-jedi Thomas had taken her on as his Padawan. All seemed to be going fine until the evil Sister returned. Perhaps the Princess was becoming too lapse in her concentration. The Power of the Serve was now almost under control again and her newly cloned shoulder, perfected by Tim the Henman on his chicken farm was now working almost perfectly. Even her new specially perfected Light Racquet was an improvement over her old one.

Philli Wan let out a deep sigh. 'Be positive, she must, not give in to her doubts. Do or not do, there is no try.' She turned and left the Arena, noting that the blue colour reflected her mood at that moment. 'Oh well, maybe next week'. She made her way to the spaceport for the short hop to the land of the speghetti eaters.

It is Venus in Maria's half of the draw. Serena might come in semi or final if she hasn't given up yet due to playing tooooooo many matches. She is a clever girl , not sure if I trust her.

Yes I think you are right. I think Serena is not going to play at the Rome Open. She will keep her strenght for another tournament.

It is not easy to play all tournaments and win them.

Just as a bye, for those who dont know, back in 2007 I created a Thread entitled 'Once upon a Time in a Tennis Court Far Far Away'. It was the Story of a Princess who had to learn about The Power of the Serve in order to defeat all the other Evil players out there. As well as the Dark sisters, there was the 2 Evil witches Janko(witch) and Ivano(Witch) led by their evil master Jocko(witch). Over the weeks and months it developed into a very good and at times funny thread that was read around the world. I invented the Light Racquet as Maria's special weapon and, to my surprise, several months later, this ad appeared on European TV. I'm convinced that they stole my idea but, I took it as a compliment. See for yourself.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DP9rm8AtFXk

Back then, there were a few others who contributed to the momentum of the story and we kept it going for several years. Part Two was 'The Umpire Strikes Back' based on an argument Maria had with the Umpire at RG which got her booed by the crowd.

I dont know if I have the time or the full interest in creating another tale... it takes a lot of thought and effort.

This is good; she's back playing on REAL clay.

As said before, it'll be interesting how she holds up in the coming months.

She has a tonne of points to defend until the US open, after that she has nothing.

If she can defend most points here, she'll have a definite shot of ending the year as #1, as both Viki and Aga (and Petra) have a lot of points to defend post US open.

The only problem i see for her in the coming months, is He-woman

  • Not going to lie, Maria's loss in Madrid makes me kind of hate the blue clay. It was pretty at first but now its just aggravating. I don't agree with the ball boys watering the courts before/during matches. Makes no sense to me.n

  • I am pretty sure one of Serena's goals is to be undefeated during the clay season, it's why she is playing well. The thing is, nowadays Serena can play god like tennis but only for short periods. When she was younger (2002-2003, 2008) she could play god like for over months. But now she just gets injured after playing well.

  • What frustrates me about Serena is how she beats people easily yet she has professed how she doesnt even love tennis, yet she gets all rude and competitive during matches.

  • I think Maria will have good runs during the Slams. Being number 2 means getting nice draws during the big events. When she was in the cursed 16th-20th ranked positions she always got the worse draws.

  • I JUST WANT MARIA TO FINALLY DO WELL IN THE U.S. OPEN! It's my favorite court.

Integrity is the best policy.

Yeah, i feel the exact same way; she hasn't been past the 4th round there since she won in 06. I thought she was going to go deep last year, after he performance in Cinci, but obviously i was wrong.

Oh well, she needs to get through RG, Wimby, Olympics and her other warm up tournaments before she should even focus on Cinci.

On a side note, i think Vika has pretty much already qualified for the SEC.

Well Serena destroyed Vika as well. And she did it the same way as she did with Maria. With powerful serves. I said it before, blue clay was an epic failure. It came down to who was the better server. Movement on court was a no no.

We will see what happens in Rome, but I am expecting more tennis and less serving this time. I would actually want to see the players move as well, instead of just hoping the serve will win the match.

PS: Philli if you got the extra time and interest, it wouldnt be a bad idea, in fact i would look forward to it!! My God, what am I typing eh? And I am serious O_O!
