The family name Sharapov is a famous name in Russia. Even during the WWII this name was already well known. It is a family name of fighters.

The Cuckoo is a 2002 film directed by Aleksandr Rogozhkin. Its Russian title is Kukushka. It takes place during World War II from the perspective of opposing Russian and Finnish soldiers (Karelian Front) stranded at a Sami woman's farmhouse.
September of 1944, a few days before Finland went out of the Second World War. A chained to a rock Finnish sniper-kamikadze Veikko managed to set himself free. Ivan, a captain of the Soviet Army, arrested by the Front Secret Police "Smersh", has a narrow escape. They are soldiers of the two enemy armies. A Lapp woman Anni gives a shelter to both of them at her farm. For Anni they are not enemies, but just men.

St Petersburg, formerly Leningrad, has unveiled a memorial to the Belarusian members of the Soviet forces who defended the city against the Nazis. There were moving tributes to the wartime brotherhood-in-arms between the peoples of the Soviet Union.

The memorial stands at the site of a fierce wartime battle for control of the left bank of the River Neva,

The unveiling coincided with the 70th anniversary of what is known as the Road of Life, which linked Nazi-encircled Leningrad with the Soviet mainland across the ice-bound Lake Ladoga.

We learn about Russia's heroic resistance to invasion in the past and how those qualities were called upon in the current war. We also learn about Russian tenacity and their determination to win against the seemingly invincible forces of Nazi Germany in the bloodiest fighting of the war.

In June, Israel will unveil a memorial to the Soviet Red Army in the city of Netanya on the Mediterranean coast.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced this to Israeli war veterans at a meeting in Tel Aviv on Wednesday. He said the Red Army saved the Jewish people from annihilation, and without its 1945 victory over Nazi Germany, Israel would have remained an unfulfilled dream.

Israel is now home to some 10,000 WWII veterans.
