WHY DO THE RUSSIAN LOSE THE FED CUP?

All the russian girls played a good tennis. But Petra Kvitova from Czech played an excellent tennis and she showed us the difference. This girl reached the second place at the WTA ranking , she had the 50th place in the WTA ranking few months ago. We can conclude by saying that Petra was the person who helps her team to win this Fed Cup.

Maria Sharapova will help her team the next time against the Spanish.

Petra Kvitova, Number 2, just arrived in Moscow for a strong battle against the Russians.

n she was 16 years old, she was playing tennis just for fun.

Petra Kvitová (Czech pronunciation: [ˈpɛtra ˈkvɪtovaː]; born 8 March 1990) is a Czech professional tennis player. She has won seven WTA singles titles. As of 31 October 2011, she is ranked World No. 2.

Kvitová won the 2011 Wimbledon Championships and the 2011 WTA Tour Championships singles titles. By winning Wimbledon, she became the first Grand Slam event winner born in the 1990s.

Image Galina Voskoboeva: It's a pity that the girls did not win the Fed Cup

The famous tennis player Galina Voskoboeva playing for the national team of Kazakhstan told of how she spent the weekend.

"Had a great weekend at the Fed Cup. It is a pity that the girls did not win. Matches were interesting, but I watched them as a commentator. Who knows why people began to leave after two singles, before a deciding doubles? "- Wrote Voskoboeva in her Twitter.

Sharapova to lead Russia in Fed Cup

Updated: 05:39, Thursday January 26, 2012

Sharapova to lead Russia in Fed Cup

Maria Sharapova will lead Russia against Spain in the Fed Cup next month.

It will be Sharapova's third appearance for Russia. The three-time Grand Slam champion won both of her singles matches against Israel in 2008 but lost in opening singles against France last year.

Russia captain Shamil Tarpischev also named two-time Grand Slam winner Svetlana Kuznetsova, No.31 Nadia Petrova and Australian Open quarterfinalist Ekaterina Makarova for the February 4-5 best-of-five series on the indoor hard court at the Olympic Arena in Moscow.

Russia has won the Fed Cup title four times since 2004 and is 5-1 against Spain, which won the title five times between 1991 and 1998.

Sharapova set to delight Russian fans

Maria Sharapova is the golden girl of Russian tennis – and this weekend local fans have a rare chance to see the darling of the court playing on home ground. Last week’s Australian Open finalist is heading to Moscow to join the Russian national team as it begins its quest for a fifth Federation Cup title, fulfilling a promise she made last season after sitting out international matches as she battled with injuries.

Speaking to journalists in Melbourne after Saturday’s final, where Sharapova was surprisingly beaten by Belarusian Victoria Azarenka, she said she would be in Russia in a couple of days. And she added that while she hadn’t missed the cold and snow as she toured the tennis world, she was looking forward to tucking into some authentic home cooking again.

She’ll also be expected to tuck into the Spanish opposition in this weekend’s quarter-final match-up. With Sharapova backed up by fellow Grand Slam winner Svetlana Kuznetsova and rising stars Nadia Petrova and Ekaterina Makarova (who fell to Sharapova in the quarter finals in Melbourne), Russia is expected to delight the crowds at Olimpiisky with a comfortable win. Spain will be without experienced team leader Anabel Medina and a top-ranked player Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez is at 36 in the WTA listings, lower than three of her Russian rivals.

Spain has only once beaten Russia or the USSR in Fed Cup action, back in 1989, and even though team captain Arantxa Sanchez-Vicario has a proud record as a player when the Spanish dominated the competition in the 1990s, the depth of Russian talent available for last year’s silver medalists should ensure a home win this weekend.

Feb. 4 and 5, from 2pm Federation Cup tennis, Russia vs Spain. Olimpiisky Arena, Olimpiisky Prospekt, m. Prospekt Mira. Tickets start at 200 rubles per day, the best seats are 4500 rubles (100 euros) a day.

"I'd love to open a tennis school for children in my hometown of Sochi." said Sharapova Maria.

Russian team captain Shamil Tarpishchev shared nuances of the preparation team for Fed Cup quarterfinal against Spain.
- Of course, court surfaces, selected primarily based on the preferences of our players, not only to inconvenience the rival - said Tarpishchev.- That is why we chose such a hard surface, which is now in the "Olympic" - it is slightly faster than the "Kremlin Cup". In principle, we could make it even faster, but it was difficult. The concrete flooring in the hall is not flat, courts must cover a sheet of chipboard. And to further increase the speed of rebound, the concrete should be pre-cut and more. In this situation, there was no special meaning.- The leader of the Spanish girls Maria Jose Martinez-Sanchez - left-handed. It's like a game to complicate our athletes?- Our team also has a leftie. In the end, Katya Makarova in the starting lineup, so it is possible to properly posparringovatsya. And then, not so important in today's tennis, which hand the player holds the racket.Recall that the first-round match between Russia and Spain will be held in the Moscow sports complex "Olympic" this weekend. In the Russian national team invited Maria Sharapova, Svetlana Kuznetsova, Nadia Petrova and Ekaterina Makarova.

The first Russian tennis player Maria Sharapova shared expectations for the upcoming match against Spain's Federation Cup at a news conference in the "Olympic."
- Last year I played badly here against France - quoted finalist Australian Open-12's special correspondent "Soviet Sport" Nicholas Mysin. - But it is good that the Fed Cup team plays, not one person - even conceding 0-2 after the first day, thanks to Kuznetsova and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, we were able to break on. I was, frankly, I do not remember how to feel themselves and in what form was 12 months ago. We can say, I forgot about the injury. I hope this time everything goes well and I will bring ourteam needed points.
- This season - the Olympic. If you had a theoretical opportunity to exchange one of youtitles in a tournament "Grand Slam" for Olympic gold, would have done it?
- And why change if it is possible to add? - Maria laughed. - I have a chance to do well at the Games, and Olympic medal - my childhood dream. I remember when O cheered for Kafelnikov in Sydney and imagined how he would also fight for the gold. I'll try to do everything possible to make my dream come true this year.
Recall that the first-round match between Russia and Spain will be held in the Moscow sports complex "Olympic" in the next few weekends. In the Russian national team invited Maria Sharapova, Svetlana Kuznetsova, Nadia Petrova and Ekaterina Makarova.
