so sad Maria is about to fall out of the top 20...at least she has a ton of pts to gain at the AO. She won't dissapoint us, I'm sure.
I'm sure she won't disappoint us. [Y] Trouble is, there is no way to guess what Craig Tiley will pull at the NEXT AO. As long as he remains director, we have to assume his criminal manipulations will continue. In different ways, he's attacked Kuzi & Lenochka. (Indeed, shrapi is correct that Dementieva would be AT LEAST number 6 IN SPITE of her RG injury & missing USO--except that her ranking had already been depressed by calculated targeting in the Melbourne & Miami "draws".)

When Tiley was stung by the (correct) global perception he had manipulated the heat rule to save Serena from Kuzi in 2008, he retaliated with a slanderous insinuation of involvement with a gambling scandal (the "scandal" itself turned out to be meaningless crap & never got off the ground.) There is no bottom to this trivial man's petty schemes and these are hardly the only ones.

What assume this crook will allow Maria to accomplish anything?

Zvonareva Ascends To No.2 -- WTA Craps Pants

October 25, 2010

Vera Zvonareva has become the fifth Russian to crack the Top 2, ascending from No.3 to No.2 after last year's WTA Championships points fell off.

Zvonareva, who had set new career-highs of No.4 and No.3 over the last few months, joins Anastasia Myskina, Maria Sharapova, Svetlana Kuznetsova and Dinara Safina amongst the Russians to break the world's Top 2.

Zvonareva maintains her focus on tennis: "I don't really think about statistics. If I do my best on the court all the time and I'm able to prepare myself to go out there and perform my best, the results and all the rankings will come. I'm just trying to concentrate on my game, trying to improve all the time. Every time I'm out there I'm challenging myself. That's the most important thing for me."

Sharapova and Safina are the only Russians ever to make it to the No.1 spot.

Following a shining performance at her home event in Moscow, Maria Kirilenko made her return to the world's Top 20, rising from No.24 to No.19. Kirilenko had already been in the Top 20 for 11 total weeks before, four in 2006 and seven more in 2008 - she now spends her 12th career week in there.

Late-year points expiring at events she had no need to defend. Example--Rezai just took a tumble, thus Masha moves above her.

Rome will be Maria's next tournament beginning next Monday.

In the WTA rankings, Maria is guaranteed to finish No.8 in the new rankings released next Monday.  This will be Maria's highest ranking in over 2 years.

Azarenka has not only won 19 of her last 21 matches now - and both losses were injury retirements, including one against Görges - but by virtue of reaching the final she has secured a rise from No.5 to No.4, which will make her the highest-ranked Belarusian in WTA history (Natasha Zvereva made it to No.5).

Görges, who beat No.1 seed Caroline Wozniacki en route to the semis, will crack the Top 20. With Andrea Petkovic already there, it will be the first time since 1999 two Germans will be in the Top 20 (Steffi Graf and Anke Huber).

A day earlier, by virtue of reaching the semifinals, Kvitova assured herself of a rise from her current No.18 to No.10 on the rankings next week, making her the sixth Czech player ever to crack the Top 10 (after Martina Navratilova, Hana Mandlikova, Helena Sukova, Jana Novotna and Nicole Vaidisova).

I couldn't help but laugh at the 10 point difference between Azarenka's and Maria's ranking this morning. I feel like the the number 1 ranking next year (in the first half of the year) is going to be tossed back and forth between the top 3 players, whoever that be. There aren't alot of points seperating the top 4 girls. Hope Maria starts her campaign of 2012 really well, obviously, but hope she improves immensely. She has her racquet, and her coach, so right now it should just be fitness and clocking in that serve during the offseason. Soooo excited for next year .

Integrity is the best policy.
