I posted a thread on Istanbul, beginning with the front page article
Well, the flap over slippery USO courts seems to open up the whole ATP/USTA/ITF can of worms. lol!
Interesting: The Sky Sports 1 crew offers a great deal more in-depth commentary on the business-political dimensions of the game than we ever hear over here--or even on Eurosport.
Only when something allows Johnny Mac to rant does American media even touch these matters.
On ESPN2, soon as discussion veered toward the need for a real player union (not some ATP corporate horseshit), Clif Drysdale jumped in to huff and puff disapproval of the very notion.
We don't need that sorta commie crap in the Tea Party Yankeeland, y'know...?
Yesterday's USO "player rebellion" (later the women followed the guys' lead in confronting management over the conditions) was less important in itself than in pulling the woolly-woolly off the structural contradictions of the game.
Rafa: "We are not protected."
Even some of the mouthpieces got sore. Johnny Mac effectively called for a real union when he pointed out there is no way the associations ATP-WTA, which manage the tours (even own some tournaments) can function as "player organizations" at the same time.
At one point he even asserted they are run by the "politicians".
Tell me what I say. You heard it here first, boys & girls.
PS: When the GIRLS confornted Brian Early last night, all we were shown here were Caro, Petko, Kerber, Pennetta & a woman identified as "Serena's representative. HOWEVER, those shots were very BRIEF, TIGHT, & the mouthpieces carefully avoided specifying who all were there. SUSPECT one or both Russian girls were cut outta the picture. Europeans see anything more?
Bubblegate: For once, Roddick's ego served a good purpose as he got the ass enough to turn away from the bosses & get nearly on the same page with the TOP guys. We will see whether that sticks.
If the guys go for union, the girls should move immediately in conjunction--and Russian & Eastern players should take the vanguard on the women's side.
This is serious--the mouthpieces are running to keep up & pretend they are with the "players' cause". Of course, they are TOTAL LIARS & wolves in sheep's clothing, just waiting the chance to betray in service of their corporate masters. But the very lip-service shows how serious it is.
Women's Doubles: Through the later rounds, the trash-talkers made perfectly clear who they were ordering us to deem the "real Amerikans" -- certainly not that little China-girl who teams with a dirty kontraktnik.
Liezel Huber oughta wake up & smell the stink--note that she herself is a "real Amerikan" when she plays with Raymond but NOT so much when she played with Petrova. 'Course, I'm not sure the former Afrikaaner is all that bright.
Congrats to Sam Stosur. Y'notice the USO arrayed Yankee flags behind Sam? Just so's the Aussies don't forget we regard them as a vassal state. :P
I noticed those yankeeflags this morning on a photo of Sam, if u didn't knew her u would
take her for an "Amerikan winner". But unfortunately the foretold diary of the "real" Ame-
rikan winner was never written. She threw it away herself, she messed it up...damn, how
could she do that? THAT WASN'T WRITTEN IN THEIR SCRIPT!!! Surprised they didn't puished
her; means they still need her!!
It's now or never for those boys & girls to UNITE and SPEAK UP...if they wait too long things
They pulled the same shit on the men--one flag each for the contenders, hidden in a veritable forest of stars & stripes. I've never seen anything like that before, ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD!
Yeah, with no chance on the men's side, it was all on Serena & she blew it bigtime. Worse, she renewed the equation Sullen Serena = Bad Behavior.
The corporate agenda now is to stuff & mount the sisters icons next to BJK. But they better get the embarrassment of Serena OFF the court if they wanna even pull that off.
This is out-and-out failure. Evidence: CBS's unprecedented back-burnering of the Monday final. TTC is engaged in avoidance, stalling the women's replay as long as possible and running USO classic victories of the sisters instead. Now supposed to start airing it this evening--we'll see....
Union: I'm not gonna get bent over rate of development. In the nearer present, this may be a stumbling start. What matters is that it occurred at this time & with enough ferocity even the mouthpieces had to admit the issues go way beyond Bubblegate.
On the women's side, the East European women (including Czechs & Poles--now possible) need to step up alongside the Russians--where leadership needs to come from. Soon as they commit, the China-girls know exactly what to do. Some even have experienced organizational personnel in tow. Central Asian & other newer tennis cadres will follow suit.
I sincerely believe more is going on than the twilight of the Williams era. The Olympic Year is the tipping point when the focus of women's tennis gravitates irreversibly to the East.
The future is upon us & there is no turning back.
That said, the Brits aren't far behind on the bullshit curve. During Wednesday evening Beijing matches, British Eurosport mouthpieces made a spectacle of themselves for online viewers.
After perennial "preferred champ" Ivanovic bested an outta-sorts Zvonareva, they ran some replays then picked up the feed from the Lotus Court (Petkovic vs Bartoli). There was some crowd there but it was spread pretty thin (capacity 4000, I think). Through the entire match they oozed a scripted bleed of what a pity that China "wasn't able" to draw a crowd for this excellent match (on a mid-week workday night).
Check it out: Here's where broadcasters don't like us having options like the Sina "room"--still streaming from National Stadium where at least 5000 people (capacity 15K) were watching BERDYCH-KOHLSCHREIBER and presumably staying for the unstreamed women's doubles that followed. (The outside shot of the new stadium that ran for an hour more caught no great crowds exiting after the guys' featured evening match--doubles being very big in China, y'know.)
Do you see how the broadcasters' "narratives" are often unmitigated lies?
That was ALL about denigrating China in any trivial way they could. They knew it was a petty falsehood, and that any viewers who could look inside the Stadium would know better.
Excellent point--and it goes beyond just talk. Right now, the Beijing finals are played under smoggy conditions. Yet if you check the Sina "room" you see nowhere near as dense a shroud. Far brighter & clearer image than presented to the West.
I think Eurosport is slightly fuzzing their image, I really do.
Just tuned in TTC & their live image is also far less smoggy than Eurosport's!
1) Wonder if anyone besides us are still around who remember only three years ago--the days when we had to struggle to catch Eurosport International on WMP through ghostly webcasters like "Caucasus Station 9". lol!
Eurosport with their Yankee Yahoo partners strove to block even such limited access. Thanx first to dedicated wedbcasters' unremitting chase of one satellite feed after another, they gave it up. Now, British Eurosport & Eurosport 2 in particular have become the backbone of WTA live streaming. (While the heavily Brit-influenced al-Jazeera English broadcasts have come to dominate ATP streams.)
The acquiescence, however, obviously involved the calculation that relatively unrestricted access was better than forcing the Amer-Angosphere's viewers to "foreign" sources bereft of the "mediation" of "appropriate" commentarial interpretation. Why, we might start believing what we SEE, rather than what we are TOLD by our "betters".
Also, it is too easy to imagine a Eurosport reliance being cultivated to the end of abruptly shutting down that access--perhaps during the London Olympics, or whenever the Amerikaan broadcasters command. I advise continued attention to IEC Stockholm, NTV+ Moscow, CCTV5 Beijing, and new sources that will certainly appear in the Eastern lands where the global tennis is really happening.
2) US Tennis Channel's new "Tennisography" segment should be available on youtube by now. I don't know whether it's significant that Time-Warner's digital cable guide mistakenly lists "rising Russian star, Victoria Azarenka." lol!
BUT, do note that TTC has NOT chosen to perpetuate ESPN2's "Arizona Vicky" myth. Sure, they mention her time in Scottsdale with Khabibulin and show practices in Cali, but it's clear they understand (maybe because Sam Sumyk's wife was in on the production) that further efforts to divorce Vika from her Belarusian roots would beg an unpleasant public denunciation from Azarenka.
More Eastern girls need to lay down the law on this crap.
Hantuchova vs Martic match in Linz: Eurosport fairies Chris Bradnam & David Felgate openly bitch that the girls' skorts are too short & the Austrian camermen shouldn't zoom in so close!
Can you believe this crap? They oughta go off & play with each other, which seems to be their preference, or else emigrate to the States -- where the "freaks of faith" hold their sorta misogynistic dreck in esteem.
Then there's the whole ridiculous bit with Alaster trying to shove herself "into the picture".
"One of the girls", my ass! This is like the corporate zombie shit--the devices become so silly & transparent that too many people see right through them.
Maria Sharapova: Always wanted to go to the Olympics
October 24, 2011, 13:26
Russian Maria Sharapova announced that she would like to represent the Russian team for the forthcoming Olympic Games in London.
"To the Olympics, I wanted to go always. When I was little, tennis in Russia was not considered a major sport, a lot more hockey skating on TV. I looked and it's both. And I thought about how great to represent my country, to participate in the Olympic parade - said Sharapova. - Even though I represent Russia in a tournament every week, I do not think it's the same feeling than what I will experience when I get on the court at the Olympic Games in London. I still fret that I was unable to go to Beijing and am looking forward to next year. "
During 2006-2007, Western venom directed at Maria reached a low point unequaled since. As the extent of her injuries became known (and, coincidentally, as BJK's Russia-hating friend Clinton began to lose traction), the mouthpieces backed off. Even the Three Witches of ESPN (Carillo, MJF & Schriver) retrenched & claimed (for those with the memories of fruit-flies) they had always admired Masha. Yeah, right.
For three years, their State-scripted defamation was transferred first against the Golden Girl Dementieva and more recently to Zvonareva. But that propaganda phase is now ending.
I will predict exactly whay happens next. NO LATER than when Masha steps onto the Fed Cup court in Moscow in February, they are coming at her again. Their New Cold War is on, and they cannot abide the glamorous image of the Amerikaans-speaking superstar conceived in Belarus leading Team Russia.
Yanks will carry the hate-ball alone for a few months, as they can't really deploy their British lickspittles against the London Olympiad, duh. But soon as that wraps, the sports-zombies and their corporate masters will expose their intent to undermine and destroy Sochi, Rio & all things not "all about US".
Get ready, y'all, because the shit-storm is coming.
