I'm sorry for Roger's fans and I so respect Roger but I hope Delpo beats him today. Delpo needs a big win to boost his confidence after what he's been through. Vamos Juan!!!

Yes, she can only gain points this week. She went down two places because they removed the points she gained last year at Cincinnati where she reached the finals (it took place earlier than this year).


 


So Maria won easily but it was a poor match in my opinion. Still quite a few doubles and she let Rodionova break her twice in the second set. She needs to step it up quickly.



Agree. Everything was going well, until double faults started clinging in that one service game of Maria. All doubles in the second set came from that game I think...


 


She's playing good somehow, although she's missing some combination shots. Tough match ahead I should say, tricky Kuznetsova. 



 


Yeah, I edited my post because I meant a poor second set especially those 3rd and 5th games where all those doubles came in (I think). Kuznetsova hasn't been great lately but we all know she's a good player.

She only played 5 matches throughout the us open series. 3 wins-2 losses. Let's hope she'll roll and win more! Her serve is vital in winning her matches..

Already my first disappointment. Expected more from Delpo. Federer's serve was too good. Well, I hope Novak wins now (although he has to lose some day, I guess -not to my joy-).

We will soon see whether Kuzi handles Cetkovska (defeating this high-level ITF player is not a given.) Assuming so, Svetlana will be Masha's serious test--Maria defeated her in the first round at Cincy last year 64 16 62.


More informed reflection tells me she may NOT face Serena--and that's only partly because Williams is visibily not worth so much in sunlight anymore. My first assumption that Li Na would roll over neglected two points. 1) This is not a major. 2) I didn't know about the Mountain Flowers.

Maria played with confidence last night. She still has lots to improve on particularly the serve and being more aggressive if she wants to beat the likes of Na Li or Serena not to mention her next round opponent.

I liked Maria's first match in Cincinnati yesterday specially in the first set when she served really well, in the second she had some trouble but she also kept the match under control. Now is wait for her second match tomorrow.

Another second round defeat for Caroline Wozniacki today, hope she can find her form again, she isn't playing with the great consistency that made her number one.

Later today Victoria Azarenka will play another great match to watch.

Yes, Wozi played very poorly today. Her forehands were flying eveywhere except in the court. She has accumulated so much points that she can be No.1 for ages without winning another match. Maria loses and she is down 2 places!!!

I've sat here an hour considering cutesy or careful ways to say this, and y'know what? Screw all that!


When Katya Makarova had to play a "lucky loser", she drew MJMS--deployed in the same identical fashion as if the Spaniard had actually qualified.


For Shahar Peer OTOH, they found Parmentier, a weak sister far below even the Israeli's mediocre standard. Clearly the organizers hope Peng Shuai, working against injury, will now falter & Peer can be ballyhooed as a "quarterfinalist" without doing a damned thing.
