Winner of the Cannes-circus is the most stupid one. Mallick shoots great images and perfs' are great...but what about a SCRIPT??? NOTHING... maybe the things he stole of REAL MASTERS AS KUBRICK/TARKOVSKY. This "Tree..." is LUDICROUS; it's more a documentary of National Geographic ("Jurassic Park" included) or a re-lecture of the Bible then a real great movie he used to make. THIS TREE IS IDEAL TO PISS ON IT...NOTHING MORE.

I can agree with the rest of what the "De Niro"-bunch pulled out of their magic hat(they just forgot the REAL "PALME D'OR" or "Le Havre" de KAURISMAKI...i'm good with "DRIVE" and
Kirsten for "Melancholia"!!! WHAT A FUZZ ABOUT NOTHING..."i'm a nazi" said Lars; well if Lars says he is, so am I.
"Nazi-Tiger" or "Tiger-Nazi"...pick one, both have a great sound IF u know that the Danes use the word "nazi" as
slang for "German"...HELLO!!! Lars likes to provoke and that's all he did...did those "frogs" forgot the REAL NAZIS called them the "best help for Jew transport" during WW II??? Hope u like it Nazar, my friend the movielover!!

Well, as well say it all here. Something "dark" came up in my private life and i must take my distance from all
those tennisfora for a (long) while. Sometimes things come all over u when u not prepared like a "brain-tsunami"...
geez, i'm talking bull here...bye to all of u and a "special pal" in particular...BUT like Schwarzie said..."I'LL
BE BACK"...enjoy Masha now she has made it and i mean that(finally Hogstedt learned her that u can do awsome things with ball 3:)...DAVAI MASHA...DAVAI ALL OF YOU...

(I PMed you.) Hope someone steps up while you are away. I don't see enough first-run films to contribute to this thread much--certainly not to keep it interesting.

I also just saw The King's Speech (yesterday). I really liked it. I still haven't seen Black Swan yet. but I will try. I am going to get "The Illusionist" on Tuesday in the mail. IT's a French cartoon movie by the guy who did Triplets of Belleville. I'll let you all know how it is.

Thanx, I was gonna look on IMDB. Turner Classic Movies at least admits to the existence of an "earlier B&W". Here, not even that. Go figure, if a color "TV movie" had existed from 67, why did I see a B&W replayed on television as late as the 1980s? Now, with few exceptions, this IS the original film--yet there was nothing like this good colorization in the 60s. I gotta assume it was originally manufactured in BOTH color & B&W. Pretty weird for a 60s B movie, all in itself.

You note stuff kept "in the can" for two years or more. Right, I can cite other examples. (As one can see in the obsession with the OKC bombing, Holly Hunter's "Saving Grace" series had lain around for some years--until TNT deemed the "religious right" tide abated enough to show Holly's nudity on basic cable.)

But I knew the stripper called Bubbles Cash, and I INTIMATELY knew the location "Athens Strip" on Greenville Ave in Dallas from as early as 1968. (Along with other locations.) Here is what I KNOW, though cannot "prove" immediately:

I can GUARANTEE you the scenes with Bubbles in the Athens were shot a few years before 1966-67! Everything about it, including the hair & clothing of the men in the (obviously actual) crowd, supports my recollection of a 1964 release--apparently the same date found by the cable company when they listed it on the digital guide as well.

I'm not amazed at the fact of this hocus-pocus. Hey, over here, Hollywood still denies the existence of European versions of American films in those decades. Don't want us looking for that stuff. And a friend downloaded for me a version of the British 1973 Christopher Lee "Wicker Man" that was FAR longer than anything I'd seen before and certainly more naked Britt Ekland than was released here two years later.

What intrigues me is the motive. WHY has the history of MNW been altered?

This is again from IMDB

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0070917/...the original version i saw here is about 14' LONGER!!! Some great nude from
Britt but Ingrid Pitt and Diane Celento suffer also from the "heat"!!!

Beats me what happened with the MNW. In those days TV was almighty and sometimes a movie was shot in B/W and then
"colored" for TV...strange indeed.

Britt's nude "dance" was truly exceptional. Despite the nude ban being totally down for theaters at that time, I'm pretty sure most of it was never seen here until the Internet era.

Yeah, & gets stranger to the degree the "authorities" don't have their stories straight.  True that I missed a lotta TV in those years--better things to do.  But as far as I know, no version of MNW was ever held forth as a "TV movie". (Such were not that common back then.) What I saw later were simply replay of an "old movie" in various venues, like "nightmare Theater" & such-like.

Another thing: The Athens Strip interior looks virtually brand-new. I don't recall exactly what year the club opened, but when I first walked in in 1968, there was way more wear and tear than one would expect for a year or two of operation. Also a somewhat different paint job. NOBODY repaints a joint after only a year or two. For one thing, premises were actually owned by the vending company (read "mob") & those cheap basterds sure as hell wouldn't pony up for that. lol

The strip club scenes are definitely shot WELL before 1966-67. And I don't think those were just inserted. In a few shots, the lead male is visibly seated in a booth beyond Cash doing her dance.

Thanx. I think I'm getting a clue:

MNW was not originally an American Intl. product. They acquired it later. (AI only really got off the ground around 1968. Old Nicholson & Arkoff didn't wanna share credit with ANYBODY--especially after the thing started to turn cult classic. BETCHA that's what's behind altering the film's early history.

I think it was in the 90s when Cannes tagged it "2nd worst scifi".

Almost 20 years i waited for this, but now it's here...SENNA, a fabulous drama about the best driver of them all

in F1. Even if u don't like that circus, you'll be under the impression of this more "movie then documentary".

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1424432/ KAPADIA's intense editing gives it this so very special look; also a look

inside. The corruption, the deals, the dogfights on circuit(geezz, on the big screen those guys look so real)...

sometimes the glamour, the corruption, the sneaky deals make me think about another sport we find the same

elements...NOT TO MISS!!!!

I saw "TF3" yesterday. What a mess that is by DESTROYER Michael Bay. It has no story, CGI plays the lead,

actors are of no importance and u leave with a bloody headache(thanks 3D). Popcornmaterial for the fans

only.
