Masha apparently already in Madrid--from Facebook & the front page:

"Day 2 at the Mutua Madrileña Madrid Open and the clay is finally red!!!. Looking forward to competing again, I have had enough of these hard training sessions."

Davai, Masha!

Yes. I have to get up about 05:00 but no biggie.

So it appears a given new thread here is fetching about three views evert two hours.  I'm sure that will pick up next week.

Any news on Masha in Madrid?

As I surmised last year, the young Spaniards are coming on strong Some of the toughest competition on the Madrid clay will be from locals!

Madrid Draw

Posted on April 29, 2011

The draw for the Mutua Madrid Open in Madrid, Spain has been released and Maria is seeded No.8 and will play wildcard Arantxa Rus of the Netherlands in the 1st round.  Maria has never played Rus before.

The first seed, Maria can meet is No.12 seed Svetlana Kuznetsova of Russia in the 3rd round and Maria is seeded to meet No.2 seed Vera Zvonareva of Russia in the quarters.

Madrid is Maria's first clay court tournament of 2011 and she has played her once before - losing in the 1st round to Lucie Safarova last year.

http://www.madridopen.info/cuadros/wtas.pdf

What they leave out is that Maria will play either Makarova or Wickmayer in the second round--where Zvonareva will probably face Vesnina

FIVE Russians are in Maria's quarter, compared to a couple in each of the others.

Very convenient or how to eliminate the Russian Top-10 players as fast as possible...WTA means business and

they don't hide it anymore!!!

The Madrid tournament is owned by Ion Tiriac, who should know better. But it appears easy to neutralize a lotta these vets with hollow honorifics--not to mention giving 'em a little cut here & there.

Every time they stuck a knife in Dementieva, Alaster handed her another of those damned plates for being a "good sport" about it. More & more, I'm coming to believe Elena bailed 'cause she saw the handwriting on the wall.

Sad state of affairs. :arg:

Paul, Your prayers have been heard ! Maria is playing Rus ( hup met dat rokje ) . Must say Maria is in the best side of the draw. Let's hope she will get far in the tournament this year !! Thomas has more clay court experience than Michael, so I do expect a lot of her sliding this year.

 Ja, I will watch die rokken--both of 'em! I expect them brief! Tiriac's guys gotta sell tickets to Spaniards. No way they'll buy into Alaster's stupid Yankeefied dress code!

But I dunno how you find anything "best" about that "draw". :uhmm:

When everybody she's most likely to meet through the quarterfinal is on WTA's "enemies list", you gotta know Masha is on that list herself!

While no broadcast/streams before Monday, there WILL be first round play starting tomorrow Saturday--WTA hoping to get some of their "bad girls" outta the picture before they can get any camera--WTA's typical sh!t:

If Sunday, we may still not "see" her. First Eurosport timeslot is Monday noon CEST. If they're gonna schedule Maria Sunday, the Sharapova & Rus Rokje Show is strictly for the paying customers.

We see when she will be playing ! Rus is left handed and can move good on clay ! Allthough she is coming from my country, I will still cheer for Maria ! Have to go now, it's our national holiday today, called Queensday, as we celebrate the birthday of our Queen. Street parties everywhere and all dressed in orange today ! Oeps, forgot to get the flag out of the closet. Have a great day all !!

well time will tell when Maria is going to play her first match. Nice to have her back in Europe, no more late night shows for me the next couple of months. Just looking forward to see her out there again.
I am, as allways on a public computer, can´t wait to get my little old laptop back from repair.
Other than that i think Maria has a great chance of making a good result in Madrid. I´m about to go offline again, but i hope everyone will have a great week-end, and i hope Maria will get the chance to finish up her preparations for this tournament, she´s been putting in a lot of hard work on clay i hope it will pay off with some great results. Maria deserves it.

Take care everyone ;-)

Madrid Saturday business thus far--conducted in WTA's preferred mode: In the Dark! :ninja:

Saturday, April 30, 2011

Singles - First Round

(2) Vera Zvonareva (RUS) d. Patty Schnyder (SUI) 62 16 62

(10) Agnieszka Radwanska (POL) d. Yaroslava Shvedova (KAZ) 26 61 63

(16) Petra Kvitova (CZE) d. Alexandra Dulgheru (ROU) 64 61

WTA is posting some scores (Radwanska-Shvedova), then jerking them down again.  Dunno what that's about. Scores from Kiri-Jarmila didn't look right as the came in--suspect hanky-panky there. Play is presently suspended by RAIN. WTF!!!??? Those stadiums are roofed!

Vika dismissed poor Dushevina quickly: 60 60 in fifty minutes. Over an hour ago, that hasn't posted YET!

Singles Qualifying - Final Round

(1) Simona Halep (ROU) d. Beatriz García Vidagany (ESP) 64 62

(14) Sofia Arvidsson (SWE) d. (5) Magdalena Rybarikova (SVK) 75 63

Nuria Llagostera Vives (ESP) d. (7) Anastasia Rodionova (AUS) 63 57 63

(8) Sania Mirza (IND) d. (12) Varvara Lepchenko (USA) 63 61

(10) Chanelle Scheepers (RSA) d. (WC) Leticia Costas-Moreira (ESP) 63 61

You got plenty of company. So far, I see no evidence there will be any broadcast or streams before Monday

It appears there may be streams additional to Eurosport. myp2p.eu shows Monday timeslots:

WTA Madrid Mon May 2

12:00 - 13:45 WTA Tour

12:00 - 22:00 WTA Tour

14:45 - 18:00 WTA Tour

But again, those are all on Monday. It does appear the Sharapova-Rus Sunday Skirt Show is altogether for paying ticket-holders.
