I agree, Riad, it would be great if Masha could win this...a new start, why not?

Is there another player called Maria Sharapova, because you cant be talking about the one I know. 'unbelievable fantastic'???? in what respect? 'Great Tennis player'...aaaah those were the days back in 2005 and 2006. She's just a shadow of that player now.

I would love if Maria win it and I will support her. But unfortunately she isn't on her best form since the injury. Now I think there are few players with more chances to win it like Caroline, Kim and Vera. But I will support Maria!

I suspect that Riad Basrawi had never even heard of Maria Sharapova in 2005 or 6 so he has no way of knowing how good she was then...at the beginning...and and how bad, by comparison, her tennis is now. Riad, forget about how pretty she looks, you cant have her anyway, she's a Christian and would never wear a Burka for you. Try to concentrate on her Tennis without thinking how pretty she looks. Since 2007 her tennis has been no better than average, with occasional high spots which, unfortunately didn't last. NO MORE EXCUSES about her shoulder, she should be playing a lot better than she is. If she spent more time in front of a tennis net instead of a photographer's camera, she might get better on court. Her Ego problem is MASSIVE compared to Carolines.

Just ignore her, Riad Even Philli knows better than that "burka" dreck. At Doha we watched a young player from Oman--actually, it had not occured to me how Spandex might influence hijab.

Medina is at her best on clay. The way those balls fly at IW, not so much. Also, without wanting to be cruel, Anabel appears rather in decline. It requires no commentary on Maria to presume this SHOULD be a quite managable meeting.

Streams will begin to appear tomorrow. Whether they play Saturday or Sunday, we may be able to watch this.

I agree with Philli, Maria isn't on her best form sice the injury. She has to improve her serve and reduce the amount of unforced error to have a good result in IW this year. I'll support Maria, but Caroline, Kim and Vera are playing more consistently. Caroline have just few unforced erros in the majority of hers matches and have a consistent serve, not powerful but consistent. Maria has to improve to find her form again.

Sorry. By "her", I meant Philli & her wisecrack about burkas (like some Pashtun women wear in Afghanistan.) She teasing you, "jerking you around", as we say.

We who have been around the forum awhile are familiar with Philli, but she can sometimes appall newcomers.

If I knew her city, I don't remember. I believe she said she's a British expatriate, but I will let her tell her own story. ;)

Would love it if Maria bounced back to form........but there is no evidence yet that she is anywhere near her previous best.

Okay, Apologies all round. Sorry I sometimes forget that not everybody has a sense of humour like mine. Come to think of it, I dont think anybody has one like mine. But, in future I will try to keep my funny remarks aimed only at Maria's tennis, since, at the moment, that's the biggest joke of all.
Now, all remember, she has a new trainer, new training methods, new fitness programs so we are not expecting to see so many bum first serves or double faults, or unforced errors when she hammers the ball out of play when returning a cross court shot from right to left, or putting it longline out when trying to return a shot from the left side baseline corner. These are all her major faults which should have been worked on for years but never were. So, Personally, I am waiting to see what all this 'newness' has brought to her game.
It may surprise you boys to know, but I'm not interested in her outfit or her earrings, just her Tennis.

Maria is capable of beating anyone and winning this tournament. If ONLY she can get her first serves in and throw in a few aces. The last few matches before she got the flu her service let her down at crucial points. I believe Maria CAN do it. I can't wait to watch her play some matches again. Shame she didn't play in the last three tournaments she signed for. Would have been great practice for her.

Her first match is on Sunday 13th at 19:05
