OK: First let me say I LOVE Maria in everyway on and off the court.  I am also a fan of all tennis and there are some tennis players (male and I female) I like also  - but not as much.

Second, It goes w/o saying that Maria is not only agreat tennis player but just plain beautiful both face and body.  She looks like a fashion model but has the heart and talent of a champion.

I was looking a the new rankings on the WTA site and other things and I noticed something; so I decided to bring it up.

She is listed at 6'2 and 130 pounds.  I checked 15 other tennis players; some of similar; height; and build; - Yes I had nothing better to do!!

For instance Nicole Vaidisova and D. Hauntichova are SHORTER but listed as HEAVIER but are THINNER than Maria.

Women of a similar build that were 6 to 8 inches shorter were about the same weight as her.

As a former sports trainer, I know that muscle weighs MORE than fat; and Maria doesn't have an once of fat; I've also noticed (and know) that women who are heavier than they look are almost always strong and very fit.  Maria obviously has power on that beautiful body and I thought her legs looked stronger at the AO. (the best she looked ever!!! - body and Tennis)

If she is REALLY only 130 pounds; So be it; but based on every woman I checked it seems impossible at 6'2!

I hope this list is not about her advertisers thinking (the public) is brainwashed into thinking every model has to look rail thin and be 115 pounds.

Woman and Sports should be above that by now. - All she has to do is look in the mirror - who cares what he actual weight is.

Please don't take this as a cut on Maria, I will be (am) a huge fan no matter what; the weight listed just doesn't fit with her height and build and other the other players I compared with.

Please list (maybe update - I heard she did grow some last year) your REAL weight (or contest it's accurate) and be proud of every inch and pound of that strong perfect body you have.

I suspect that her weight has not been updated on her WTA player profile. I have been visiting the WTA website for at least 3 years and I have noticed that the 130 pounds (59 kgs) has remained the same over that period of time. We all know that she has grown up during that time and as you quite rightly point out, she is all muscle & no fat. Muscle mass being denser than fat, logic prevails that she would weigh greater than the weight specified on the website.

Yeah I'd estimate 65-70kg probably - that 59kg weight has been the same for years...

Hot body...

Hey midaso. [H] Sounds about right. I'd wondered if anybody was ever going to talk about this. GREGG & GHVentura are absolutely correct about muscle mass. I was married to an athletic woman in the range you suggest. In fact, when she was toned up her optimum weight was in the high end of that and she wasn't hardly as tall as Maria. But you know what? No one wanted to believe her real weight--people being hung up on images connected with the numbers.

Deal like this with nothing at stake (not talking prizefighters here), I can see why a girl would just leave it as originally recorded. Ever seen Masha's shoe size? I haven't. [:P]

Agreed Paul; I'm not saying its like a scandle or anything like that at all.

It's just something I noticed  AND I was curious about.

Like I said she should be proud of every pound and inch of her beautiful body.

I just hate that it's might be because of the "image thing" - everybody knows she probably probably makes more in endorcements than the rest of the WTA combined and people are so small minded about strong women vs. beauty.

Aw yeah, me too. First time I saw that 130 lbs, I thought I am so sure... [:P] Masha is slender, but really! Of course, the players are to some degree engaged in show business, which involves the manipulation of the images. [;)]

Another part of it is that increasing stature has outrun conventional preconceptions. The older population wasn't accustomed to as many six foot plus young people as there are today and are generally challenged at appraising their size and weight. [H]

Yea she was 130 as her 6'0 height, she grew 2 inches(converted from Meters for you guys). Her muscle mass also increased in legs and arms. I hope shes not 62kg like me. Dang better start lifting weights. hehe.

Yeah I was thinking about this too..I'm glad somebody brought it up. She has grown taller and increased muscle mass in the last two years or so. I really don't think she can be 130 pounds, but she is still gorgeous and very athletic. w00t!

Who cares what she really weighs though...she looks great!
