Elena D is first up on Centre Court, Wednesday at 14:00 CET versus Francesca Schiavone of Italy. Eurosport should cast.

The head to head is 2-3 in favor of Schiavone. Her latest win over Elena was a three-setter at the Rogers Cup two months ago. Francesca was solid there and in New Haven before her second round upset by Paszek at the USO. I'm not sure she's played since her defeat last month at the Fed Cup final.

The winner will play Patty Schnyder, who Elena dismissed 63 64 a few days ago in the second round of Kremlin Cup.

You know who I'm cheering for in both matches. [H]

I hope Elena can do the same like last week. She's in great shape and must take points. Maria is out of the picture for a moment so let's cheer for the lovely Miss Dementieva. Just adore that girl.mmmmmmm:)

Just saw Elena won the first set against Schiavone 6:4,

second set 1:6

There will be a third one now.

Hope you can win Elena.

I watched it too, but I wanted to find some news before I commented. Elena often plays with her right thigh wrapped--even has an outer sheath matching her dress. Today, I noticed that the wrap was on her left thigh--so she was feeling something before she came on court. Early in that second set, she went down on her knee in a way that made me think the leg had given out on her. By the third set, her face was betraying discomfort and Vera was clearly worried.

There were a lot of upsets today. It is late in the season and all those strains and body problems are piling up. (The Linz organizers are in a froth fretting the shape of their field.) Besides, she just fought her way through Kremlin Cup. It's not unusual for winners and finalists of intense tourneys to bail on the next one. But, besides wanting to contend for the YEC if she could, Elena has a reputation for honoring committments.

Don't be sad. She just achieved the  KC, which she had wanted all her life, and touched again the top ten--I don't think she had really expected to be back there before next year. Elena is tough enough to have finished the match but she has already learned the hard way the foolishness of playing against an injury. I'm glad she had the sense to go ahead and get off the court. This is probably nothing major and now she can rest and recoup.

Yes, i think the KC will last as her most memorable victory (until now). She really pushed for that one and maybe a bit too hard. Still, she got it and Madrid will come around:))

I'm so happy for her that she won KC. I like her much and this trophy is the most

important for her I think, this win has more value then another win.

And the win over Serena anyway.

Think Elena is not really interested in the rest of the saison, more to begin

good in 2008.

Good luck and health for you, Elena !!!

Yes, Kremlin Cup is most important, right beside her Fed Cup and Olympic accomplishments. I think it would be just as important to her as a Slam. Some can't understand that. [*-)] Well, if they don't get it, I can't explain it to them. [:P]

Well, according to ESPN's witches, she just needs to hire Robert Lansdorp. [+o(]  You think I jest? That's what they said. Yankee commentary is a joke.

Here's the real deal: Elena took a severe injury to her shoulder at an AO several years ago and her serve has never been the same. She continues to struggle for a workaround. That perseverance and her ability to contend in the top ten in spite of the handicap make her a huge figure in my eyes. [H]

It's the way Michael tries to wreck threads. He's a juvenile deliquent tagging walls. I don't know what he has against Elena or me--I haven't interfered with him or his messages in any way. But now that he's decided to attack mine, that's the way I'm going to take it.

Wish a good 2008 for Elena.

She is my second favourite after Maria.
