 Barcelona Open

Maria is the defending Champion here, and had defeated Camille Pin and Severine Bremonde in straights set to reach the Quarter Finals.

Masha will play Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez in th QF. Maria Jose won in 3 sets in a long match that was 3+ hours long. Good luck Masha!!! We are with you tomorrow! :)

I'm sure we all love "little Maria" here. [A] (I tend to call her "Kiri" to distinguish her from Sharapova.) Sorry the live streams croaked after Monday & we can't see her at Barcelona. Confidence is high that she can make the finals & go on to defend the Barcelona title.

Davaiii, Kirilenko!!! [H]

Speaking of decorative matches, second on Centre Court on Thursday will appear Caroline Wozniacki & Maria Kirilenko! Angel Now, there are a couple more pieces of serious eye-candy. [8-|]

Figure on about 15:00 local, 14:00 GMT, or 10:00 Eastern US. American viewers will also need the streams, as you know ESPN2 will be on Court 1 fo Venus/K Bondarenko & stay there through Roddick/Kunitsyn.

So upset that Kiri lost, I was expecting it, but still [:'(].  I really wish she hadn't had to come up against Wozniacki so early, that said great that she got a chance to play on Centre Court!!

MariaK is my second favorite Maria! She's so sweet that you want to bite her up. Just like that!

But there's something missing here. Now it's done!

She can win against Li. According to reports, Li was injured and even stated in an interview that she had doubts about entering the U.S. Open -- I don't know how she managed to recover so quickly and easy in the first two rounds though. If Maria makes it through, she'll most likely face Victoria Azarenka. Now that's where I see her stopping, too bad, I would love her to make the quarterfinals or more! [H]

Anyway, you HAVE to see the victory moment for Maria. She looks super-happy, smiling and all. I haven't seen her like this in awhile.

P.S. Cold handshake though. But of course, you know how it's like with Agnieszka. [;)]

Oh wow that is cool, even if I don't like Venus. [:S]  I wish I had the same birthday as a tennis player, unless it was a player I hated of course. [:S]

Congrats Kiri!!!  Keep going!!!

Maria Kirilenko (RUS) d. (3) Francesca Schiavone (ITA) 61 12 (Schiavone retired with right hamstring strain)

Friday Quarters, September 25, 2009

Centre Court (from 11.00hrs)
1. Chan Yung-Jan vs. Anna-Lena Groenefeld
2. Maria Kirilenko vs. Vera Dushevina (NB 12.30)
3. Daniela Hantuchova vs. Kimiko Date Krumm (NB 14.00hrs)
4. Magdalena Rybarikova vs. Anabel Medina Garrigues

Dushevina is more serious competition than in the past. Rybarikova is another young threat and even Dani best watch out because Kimiko's efforts at comeback now appear to be getting some traction.

Thanks for the OOP, Paul![H] Also, congrats to Lil' Masha' for playing solid tennis until Franny retired. Pity, but a win's a win.[:P]
