She's going to dig deeper in the draw. This tournament is a big confidence booster. I mean, the only threat I saw are the Belgians (btw. is Clijster going to play?). Dark horses are going to be Zvonareva, Azarenka, or probably Caroline but I don't see her lifting the trophy. Sharapova can probably climb up to quarterfinals or even winning the title! :D

Drew Lilley at Lenochka's quarterfinal win:

4.19 pm: Three match points for Elegant Elena meanwhile, even though her Mom still looks pained. And there you go, she’s through! She serves out to love and finally Mama Vera smiles! 2-6, 6-2, 6-0 and she looks as delighted as Franny Schiavone out there. She’ll be the only Russian woman in the top ten this time next week, with Safina and Kuznetsova plummeting to the lower reaches of the top 20 and Nadia not quite climbing enough...

Russia calls for Masha to win Wimbledon, need her back up there. [H]

NBC commentary on RG Women's Final -- John McEnroe, pretty good. Ted Robinson, FoxSports xenophobe, cold warrior. Mary Carillo absent (in Florida for daughter's graduation) no loss. [:P]

With the 2nd set still undetermined, Robinson noted that the winner will be in 6th place on Monday & the loser in 7th.

"That means that on Monday, there will be two Italian women, Pennetta & Schiavone, in the top ten and only one Russian!" (Emphasis is Robinson's.)

Johnny Mac: "Hunh. Nice turn of events..." (long pause) "...Italy back on the map." (Suffix for deniability.)

Later, Robinson noted that "...of course Serena & Venus are numbers 1 & 2."

Johnny Mac: "So that bodes well for them there, because they'll be on opposite halves of the draw."

So NOW the Yanks are fully in favor of the ranking system (assuming they can get rid of that last Russian... call for Henin...) Expect no more American calls for "reform" UNTIL the rankings change again. lol!

Does anyone harbour any remaining doubt as to who WTA are? [&] As I predicted, they now openly trumpet their hostility:

Russian Empire In Trouble?
June 09, 2010

"Throughout history, empires have risen to the top of the world by conquering their competitors. For many, their rise has led to their ruin, and history has kept repeating itself. In the world of women's tennis, Russia is no different..."

full piece-of-xenophobic-sh!t at
http://www.sonyericssonw...-trouble_2256076_2066978

There is no doubt in my mind that WTA was complicit with corrupt tournament officials in deploying a crooked umpire against Dementieva at Tokyo & then targeting her with Henin in the early rounds at first Melbourne then Miami. Elena's courageous battle at the RG frustrating their objective to degrade her ranking, they now dis her & hope she's severely injured.

Do any of you imagine your players will fare any better, should they not scrape & bow as proper little corporate vassals? If indeed Masha is the first Russian to rejoin Elena in the top ten, they will first apply Ted Robinson's trailer-trash logic denying her nationality. Failing that, they will assault her the very same way.

Stacey Allaster & her little country-club yups at WTA have, in fact, gone quite insane.
