IMO, it was the closing issue. Vera came from behind in the first set, broke to love 54. Caro was outta sorts, throwing racquet, etc. Then she blew two set points & let Princess take it away from her. Caro then had the leg up psychologically. I firmly believe if she had closed that first set, the match would have gone the other way round.

She and Sergei need to work on that. Hey, the "number one" is no better at converting break & set points than any of the rest of them--saw that versus Kim today.

 From magazine Проспорт "Prosport"

The torch has passed. Recognize Vera Zvonareva, number two in the world, as commissar of the Russian women on court for 2011.

Look forward to her December 5th exhibition match with Masha in Monterrey, Mexico. [H]

Vera found so nice words for Elena, she said that Russia is proud of her.

It was very touching what she said.

This photo is " WOW " !!!

I love Bepa

Hey Paul would you happen to know what happened to the ATP players threads? I'm looking for Federer's.
Thanks if anyone can help. Sorry to ask here.

Well, no I don't. I looked through these 14 pages & noted only a very few & insignificant ATP threads scattered among the WTA.

Recall that the old forum's WTA section was far more heavily used--only a few of the ATP threads had remained active near the end. But yeah, there WERE active threads for Roger, Rafa & Nole.

Dunno, they may be gone. Start a new one.

Vera Zvonareva vs Timea Bacsinszky  62 54  (Gotta little ahead of myself here. Vera had 8 DFS, must be a lotta wind.  Still, could not close at 51...) Oh, fer gawd's sake! Timea now breaks to 45!

Vera pulled it out 63 76(4). NINE DFs!  better hit the practice court. Next plays Cibulkova or Mirza, to be decided shortly.

Vera is an excellent tennis player. She had recently a leg injury and she continues to show her best tennis.

It is excellent!!!!!!!

Yeah, Vera pretty much lamed out at the end. So did Nastia--though that one was more a clear-cut failure to close issue.  Dunno what's going on with our Russian girls.

Let's think about it.

Vera defeats Caro recently

Caro defeats Masha recently so Vera may defeat Masha.

But if Masha is courageous she has also a chance to win.
