Masha will play on Lenglen Tuesday sometime after 17.00hrs CET (16:00 BEST) (15:00 GMT) [11:00 EDT] Her first round opponent will be Ksenia Pervak--AO girls champion 2009. This will be the first really good opportunity to see Pervak play Cool

I think Pervak has the opportunity to play against Sharapova. But Maria Sharapova will give her any chance to win this match.

Sure, but if a girl is 18 debuting at her first slam main draw, and is able to stay busy with Maria Sharapova (even give some trouble in the first set) on Global Television for an hour & a half, I'd say the matches spent in the qualies are a pretty good weekend's work.


Remember the name: Ksenia Pervak [H] (Her dad has some history, but I don't recall it at the moment.)

KLEYBANOVA: I FEAR NOBODY


Yesterday Alisa Kleybanova crashed the Serbian Ana Ivanovic 6:3, 6:0 in the Round of 64 of the French Open.



"I missed out on the whole month because of the injury," said Kleybanova. "And that is why I had little playing practice before coming to Paris."


"I participated only in two tournaments: in Rome I stumbled out in the first round and in Madrid was kicked out in the second. And I was going to Roland Garros with a kind of dread."


"In this situation it was important to me to play well in the first round to try out my game. And this helped a lot in the match against Ivanovic."


"At first I was making many blunders but then I regained self-confidence and knew I was to stand pat and play aggressively, giving Ana no chance to attack."

So Nanuli won her first round match over a Japanese girl 64 63. On Monday, she'll play doubles with Polina Leykina. Other Russians in doubles action are Gavrilova & Yana Buchina. Gavrilova will also play her second round singles. Starting first round are Buchina & Irina Khromacheva, who I think is second or third seed.


There are more Russian boys this year, as well, but I can't follow everything.

Nanuli is out in the second round & Gavrilova is outta the doubles--but  Irina Khromacheva is thru to the third. She will also play doubles on Wednesday with Silvia Njiric of Croatia.


Russian boys Victor Beluda & Mikhail Biryukov are also thru to the third round.
